Post subject: Entourage 2008 Databse rebuild issues
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>office>entourage (more info?)

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I have a MacBook Pro with 4gb RAM and 250GB drive. Running Entourage 2008 with an Entourage database of about 2.0gb. I cannot seem to run the rebuild utility and get an error message (see below). The utility crashes after 4 hours. I am stumped. Any ideas?

I'm assuming you were getting messages telling you to rebuild. Did you
import this Identity from an older version of Entourage?

A quick test....

Quit Entourage. Remove your current Microsoft User Data folder to the
desktop and rename it. Launch Entourage and it will create a new Microsoft
User Data folder in your Documents folder. Drag over your current Identity
from the desktop and your Script Menu Items folder. Do the problems still
exist?

You might need to manually move into a new Identity. Once you get set in a
newly created Identity like this it should be extremely stable.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

Hi Diane,

You are truly AWESOME. After posting my woes online and followed a few more threads along this line. Man! I feel as the the MS Mac team must be like the underprivileged child.

I actually went and took the long route to solve this by backing up; dropping the main identity; creating a new identity and imported and finally recreating my user account into the respctive mail servers.

My database was originally 2.06gb and dropped to a remarkable 1.2gb in the process. Now it rebuilds like champ. The final cleanup to move the folders around was a bit of pain in the behind but overall I am pleased with the result. This is coming from a recently converted Windows user.

This is what we like to hear. Glad everything is working for you. Now be
sure you have a good backup scenario. If you mail is important, you need
backups. Smile

Entourage and Time-Machine-like backup (creates chronological backup of
Identity can be used by both Tiger and Leopard allowing you to roll back to
previous dated backups.

Alternative method to use Entourage and Time Machine (does a once a day or
whatever time period you select)
