I have a son who is starting college in a multimedia major. We have
all used only Windows XP programs and know nothing about Macs. Well
it turns out we find out today they use Macs exclusively so we're
planning on buying a Mac for him. Actually we are looking at the new
MacBook Pro (MA601LL/A). We know there are cheaper Macs out there but
figured it is best to go with the newer Intel based Macs and as well
get something that is powerful since he'll be doing multimedia work
and something that will last him through college.
I have a lot of questions but mainly i want to know, are there
educational deals that he can get as a college student? It seems I've
heard of these in the past but yet I can't find anything so I'd
appreciate any help on education discounts, etc. |

Never used it myself. But would if I could. I'd say its like anything
else ask where you are shopping if they have one and if so what it is. It
really is worth your time shopping around for you Mac. Shopping around
probably will not affect the price much but could save a lot on software
or accessories.

If your son's college has a campus bookstore, its likely that you can
order the Mac right from there. You'll be sure to get the
student/educational discount that way, but you might not get the good
promo deals like free printers 'n whatnot. Probably the only other
place to get student pricing is direct from apple.com.
Also, most major software companies offer student pricing that is
substantially lower than commercial rates (although it still ads up
fast). Again, most should be available at the college's bookstore.

Very true. I ordered an new MacPro thru Vanderbilt, and got the info about
the iPod rebate, but not about the current printer rebate. An Apple rep
called me at home, and filled me in!
Here's the page for promos (rebates); be sure to get the whole link:
