OK, I finally got this damn thing figured out (but obviously on the Mac side
right now using Hogwasher) and it works great. The only problem is that you
have to reboot to switch the OS's. Not a big deal as I'll be on the Mac side
90% of the time.

Sooooo, why did I want it? Well, I'll tell you. I've got an HP scanner
which is cleverly designed to scan slides. Yes, in this world some people
still like to sit around the ole projector and see slides on the screen.
Not coming from a computer but a click click projector. HP, didn't have the
drivers for OS-X so I stuck with my iBook which could carry both OS-X & OS-9.
The scanner worked on OS-9 and did it's job faithfully. But HA! Now that
I've got both worlds on my new system I can still use that scanner and not
have to buy a new one. I mean, it's not the 3k that pisses me off, it's the
fact that they didn't make a new scanner to meet my needs (like, who takes
slides anymore?) but it sure is a good excuse to buy a new computer.

Right?

Parallels can boot into the Windows partition created by Boot Camp -
making it possible to use the two OSes concurrently.

Have you looked at VueScan? It might support your scanner on OS X without
needing HP drivers. You can run it in demo mode (I think it watermarks the
image) to make sure it works before you pay.

Yeah, I tried that with no luck. It's a 4470c which appears to be Windows
only. But I did download it just in case. But it works on this machine with
Boot Camp on the other side so I guess that will just have to do...

I use Parallels and in my experience Windows runs better in Parallels
than through Boot Camp. An example is that OED 3.0 cannot run through
Boot Camp - and since OED with 3.1 has changed from C-dilla to CD Cop i
guess this version cannot run on Parallels either.

The problem seems to be that the firmware BIOS used by Boot Camp cannot
recognize the copy-protected CDs ;-(.

I've looked at Parallels and well, haven't done the trial yet. That's still
a yet but now that I've got this working fine sometimes it's best to leave
well enough alone. Right, tell me that when Leopard comes out and I have to
get the credit card out again! But the copying cd's isn't an issue to me
as I don't see anything wrong with paying for something which was
made/produced to be sold legit...

You don't understand the problem.

A program like OED needs to have the original CD put into the CD drive
every 90 days. But with this firmware bios, the CD cannot get recognized
as the original CD even if it /is/ the original.

Of course I've purchased my Oxford English Dictionary.
