The French.lproj folder, F3.5.3b3, for MT-NewsWatcher is now available
at <ftp://ftp.sri.ucl.ac.be/pub/News/MTNewsWatcher/>.
And maybe soon on one of the mirrors :
<ftp://ftp.ciril.fr/pub/Mac/UCL/>
<ftp://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/ftp.sri.ucl.ac.be/pub/>
MT-NewsWatcher is a Usenet news client for the Macintosh.
MT-NewsWatcher allows you to quickly and efficiently target the
articles you wish to read, with sophisticated yet easy to use
filtering, searching and sorting features. The program also makes
viewing and saving binaries from newsgroups easy, and works
transparently across multiple news servers.

MT-NewsWatcher 3.5.3b3 has been out for quite some time now.
(J.P. Kuypers seems to prefer to create and distribute French-only
MT-NewsWatcher resources himself, posting about them here, rather than
simply working with Simon to include French localization in the real
MT-NewsWatcher releases. Personally, I think it's causing unnecessary
confusion, and disconnect with the real MT-NewsWatcher project. I don't
quite understand the motivation - maybe J.P. thinks he'll get more
credit this way.)

Consent or not, distributing a small localized piece of an application
bundle seems strange to me when he could simply give the localized piece
to the application author to include in the next update. Certainly there
are many users who wouldn't know what to do with the piece by itself.
And posting about it here is borderline spamming IMO. This is the kind
of thing sites like versiontracker and macupdate are for - these news
groups are visited by mostly English-speaking folks.

Just because people speak english *here* doesn't mean they don't prefer
some other language in some other context.

It's still borderline spamming IMO.

Geez, JR, he's been providing this free service and announcing it here
for _YEARS_! You are literally the only person I've ever seen complain
about it. Lighten, up, dude! It's not as if he's announcing his
Viennese waltz video in his signature or anything like that.

I think if you look back you'll see the only reason I commented to begin
with was because Calvin replied (obviously confused by J.P.'s
announcement, BTW) apparently asking if there was a US version of
MT-NewsWatcher 3.5.3b. I (hopefully) ended his confusion by explaining
J.P.'s post.
I'm not really sure how I might lighten up about it when I'm not all
that upset about it to begin with. In fact, I filter J.P.'s
announcements, so I mostly don't see them. This is an exception.

Heck, you seemed pretty critical of J.P. to me. Under other
circumstances, I would have expected you to ask Calvin why he didn't
just look at Simon's site in the first place.

I think I'm more curious than critical; but I suppose I'm somewhat
critical as well. I mean I did have to go through the trouble of
filtering him out and all...

The thing is, I've been reading the c.s.m. groups for some 14 years now,
and for as long as I can remember he's been doing French localizations
of Mac communications programs and announcing them here, with [ANN] in
the subject line. He's part of the scenery for me. Time was when people
would joke that he was so fast in getting the French versions out, he
would sometimes do it before the English-language version was even
available. He does, BTW, also post these announcements to
fr.comp.sys.mac.annonces.

Heh... I see. I suppose I just hadn't noticed him until lately - for
whatever reason. Like I said, I've got them filtered now; so they won't
bother me.

That seems like a more appropriate place to me. Just my opinion - I'm
not starting a war over it or anything.
