Now that I have the 30" Apple monitor, I wish all apps and the Finder could
have tear-off menus. It's quite a reach to the top, and not all have
keystrokes (and regardless, with all the apps there would be more keyboard
shortcuts than I can remember.)

Or do you think Apple might already be considering an interface more
suitable to large monitors?

Or is there a third-party gadget that might help out?

You might consider a track ball for a mouse. It just takes a little
flick to get across the larger screens.
