Could someone who has a Belkin USB2 PCI card (mine's a 5 port) and
10.4.7 try something for me?

Reboot your machine. Connect something to the Belkin. Make sure it
works.

Put your machine to sleep. Wake it up.

Does the device plugged into the Belkin still work? Sleep seems to be
killing mine. Only a reboot brings it back.

I don't have a Belkin USB 2.0 PCI card, but another manufacturer's,
IOGear in my case.

The IOGear USB 2.0 PCI card has done this since I got it on 10.4, 10.4.6
and still does it on 10.4.7. I gather most/all do this on older Macs
without on board USB 2.0.

USB devices will work fine, but if anything is connected and powered
when SLEEP is enabled, on my G4 Macs it will blank the screen, power
light on desktop G4 will NOT pulse, fans remain running and FORCED SHUT
down via Power button only way out.

I bought it for my daughter to use her 5th Gen iPod which is USB 2.0
ONLY sync. That works but iPod can't be connected for any SLEEP attempt.

Did Belkin PCI card work for you prior to 10.4.7? A few vague posters
said it did, but all seemed to be on Macs with ON BOARD USB 2.0 in the
first place.

Supposedly it is a bug in PCI not USB where no proper signal recognition
on wake up of USB devices.

No fix I know about. I just make sure no devices are connected &
powered on USB 2.0 PCI card, which kind of defeats the utility of it.

Ah yes, I've had that as well but this is something new:

Switch machine on. Log in.
Plug iPod in.
iPod mounts normally.
Eject iPod. iPod ejects normally.
Plug iPod back in.
iPod mounts normally.
Eject iPod. iPod ejects normally.

Put machine to sleep.
Wake machine up.

Plug iPod in.
iPod does *not* mount. If it's directly connected to the card then it
will charge, but not mount. If it's plugged into the hub (which is
plugged into the card) then it won't even charge.

Putting the machine to sleep seems to be killing the card.

It was fine under 10.4.6

I have a Belkin PCI card in a Mac G4 1GHz AGP and just tried Sleep from
the Apple menu and it put the G4 into a hard Comma. The only way I
could wake the machine was to use the RESET button on the front.

I gave up trying to use Apple's lame sleep two years ago.

I don't think I've had problems with any sleeping Mac for the past four
years or so. That includes five PowerBook/iBook and a half-dozen desktop
Macs at home and work.

There must be some other factor(s) than just Apple's sleep
implementation.

I will have to test that, as I was not aware of that problem. I don't
update my iPod 4th gen that often. My daughter updates her 5th gen iPod
much more than I do and I don't think we have your sleep kill the iPod
scenario. We are using the USB 2.0 cable via the USB 2.0 PCI card for
both iPods.

I just have the Sleep coma issue if anything connected & powered to the
USB 2.0 PCI card.

Good luck.

I visited UK in late 70s. Spent 3 weeks in Yorkshire and 1 week in
Ireland. Enjoyed my visit to your country and have fond memories of
that time. Spent little time in cities, was on geology/hydrology field
trip.
