I've never run into squirrelly font behavior in an Opera upgrade, but I
have also noticed that fonts can be--er--variable on Linux. And a lot of
the open source fonts are, frankly, not all that great.
But I learned a trick for importing Windows *.TTF fonts into Linux which
have made my font configuration in Opera--and other Linux apps--much more
friendly.
The webpage that originally taught me how to do this is long gone, but

This works like a charm in Slackware. I ported probably 80% of my TTF
fonts to the computer on which I type right now (some didn't make it, but
all my favorites did--I copied the entire contents of the Windows font
folder to my memory stick, but not all the contents had *.TTF files).
I'm guessing that, with some adjustments, it should probably work in other
distros.
