After a long hiatus of no notices of updates, this morning my openSUSE
updater (10.3) told me that there were 12 new updates. I told it to go
ahead.I did receive the following error message:
Repository 'openSUSE BuildService - KDE:Community' is invalid. Signature
verification failed for repomd.xml Please, check if the URLs defined for
this repository are pointing to a valid repository. Disabling
repository 'openSUSE BuildService - KDE:Community' because of the above
error.
Now, it shows one update "xorg-x11-Xnest"
I told it to go ahead and install, but it failed on several attempts.
Could it be looking for the update at the KDE:Community repository?
How can I install or get rid of the nag?
Thanks,
Godzilla |

The KDE repositories have (fairly) recently been moved around a bit. What does zypper sl (as root) give
as the URI that you were trying to access? Can you compare it to the ones listed at http://
www.opensuse.org/KDE/Repositories ? I think on moving the PGP keys etc changed as well.
Is there any way to accept an Apache code 301 or equivalent when trying to do an update and finding the
repository has moved and get the URI to update automatically?

The URL's are identical. I don't know how to access the PGP keys for that
repository.

You have lost me on Apache, as I have never used it.

Sorry, just musing...
If you have webpages that change location, if you have appropriate permissions you can set up a
..htaccess file that will automatically redirect anyone that accesses the original page to the second, I was
just wondering if zypper (or whatever mechanism you use) would honour that too. Not an issue at your end
per se.

I had a problem with the KDE 4 repository. It changed to
:http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/STABLE:/Desktop/openSUSE_10.3/
Just delete your kde repsitories and replace them.
Then use yast and go to software updates to download and accept new
keys. Then you should be happy again.

I did what you suggested, replaced the KDE repositories, and while I was at
it added some others and accepted the keys. However, when I went back and
told the updater to install "xorg-x11-Xnest" it did not install and still
gives me the RED NAG triangle. Something is still missing, but thanks
anyway.

Tell updater to check for updates again.

Without any intervention on my part, the RED triangle changed to a YELLOW
triangle with the message:
"Error: a ZYpp transaction is already in progress. This means there is
another application already using libzypp library for package management
running. All such applications must be closed before using this command.
helper program returned: Exit Status: 4"
I am now more confused than before?????

Googling brought up a similar situation. The response said to re-boot.
I did this, and now I have my RED triangle back with the same one update
again.

I don't believe in rebooting unless the kernel has been updated.
It won't do any harm, though.

I would do in konsole as root:
rpm --rebuilddb
Then
zypper ref
zypper lu
In case this would show updates I would go:
zypper up
Vahis

Glad it worked. It should.
Also, if you have "external" repos like packman and stuff:
#zypper lu -t package
will list all available updates (newer versions of software) than just
the security patches.
#zypper up -t package
will do them.
Zypper runs from command line and is a direct interface to the package
management while the GUI KDE updater has a lot of stuff in between.
