Greets

I have been tring to set up my optonline cable modem with my slackware
box and no luck.
I had the box previously configure to nat for my dsl.

I used netconfig to reset my ip to a dhcp and reset my box.
Each time it restarts it times out on the dhcp lease.

Has anyone had any experience setting up optimumonline cable modem
with slackware.
if so can you please shed some light as to why the dhcpd is not
getting an ip from the cable modem but I can do it with win.

-thanks

First, don't confuse the server daemon with the client daemon! Second,
RTFM "man dhcpcd". Third, check your rc.inet1 to see that -d is used.
Finally, see your syslog facility local0.debug output, and perhaps you
will know what's happening.

Some providers require a hostname. Is this the same machine, same NIC
under both OS's? Some providers lock you to a single MAC address. You
could *try* asking their tech support, but you'll surely need to speak
to the second tier.

i run slackware with optonline.

sometimes the connection to my dhcp times out but thats only because
my NIC card goes out. when ur booting check the light on your nic
card. for some strange reason when i boot slack sometimes my nic just
doesnt want to work, dont know why this happens. there really isnt
anything special you have to do to get optonline working with
slackware. like i said, just make sure your NIC is lighting up in the
back. reboot a few times, thats what usually helps me.

Greets

Actually I made several mistakes.
I firstly mistook dhcpcd with dhcp ?
that made all the difference.

Secondly I noticed that in order to make it run, my hostname has to be
whatever @ optonline.net

Due to the overwhelming lack of documentation I had to get the dns servers
from a windows machine Smile/

Have you noticed any of this ?

-thanks
