Hi,
I recently upgraded to Debian etch (stable) and, consequently, to Opera
9.20. Since then I noticed two problems:
- Helvetica [Adobe] at font size 15 appears scrambled (!). It appears in
web pages and config dialog equally, see [1]. It seems that only this
font at only this size exhibits the problem (!).
- The menu bar (File, Edit, View, etc) is no longer styled (flat grey
background, is not updated when I select another skin). It must have
something to do with my own opera6.ini, as it works properly on the
same computer with an "dummy" user (no configuration). But I don't know
how to fix it.

Any help is appreciated.

Probably not much help, but
The default (--personaldir option) settings for the following are all
enabled.
Draw Anti Aliased Fonts yes
Enable Core X Fonts yes
Enable Xft Fonts yes
Maximum Font Size 10000
Minimum Font Size 9
You might want to check these settings in your own opera6.ini.
Just a guess.
And yes, Opera changed font handling between 9.10 and 9.20 -- I have
issues with it too.

I run Opera 9.20 (static) on Etch, and I don't see your problem.
But who knows? Fonts are hell -- there's always something that breaks.

Ah, thanks for the info. After re-testing, it now works. I ran Opera
9.20 20070407. I 've just downloaded 9.20-20070409, in which Helvetica
15 is readable (looks like Helvetica 16 bold, but readable).

The culprit was in $HOME/.qt/qtrc. Mine contains kde3 plugins and used
to prefer the "Default" style over the "Platinum" style. That caused
some bitmap corruption in the "minimize/restore/close" buttons, and
prevented the styling of the menu bar, as shown in
http://yo.dan.free.fr/tmp/pb_qt_style.png (I can recognize wmaker's red
titlebar).
Can someone confirm this (run qt-config, select a KDE style, and
restart opera)? Looks more an opera issue than a KDE issue to me...
(just guessing)
