Archived from groups: alt>os>linux>slackware (more info?)

Hi there,

Before I trash a Asus Mini3000 USB tuner 'cos it crashes windoze (even
BSODs vista Wink I thought I'd give it a go with slack. Currently testing
on a vmware install of slack-current (12.2) and have located the firmware
for the tuner. At this point I have:

Dec 14 07:52:52 vmcur kernel: usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
Dec 14 07:52:52 vmcur kernel: usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Dec 14 07:52:52 vmcur kernel: dvb-usb: found a 'ASUS My Cinema U3000 Mini DVBT Tuner' in cold state, will try to load a firmware
Dec 14 07:52:52 vmcur kernel: firmware: requesting dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw
Dec 14 07:52:52 vmcur kernel: dvb-usb: downloading firmware from file 'dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw'
Dec 14 07:52:55 vmcur kernel: dib0700: firmware started successfully.
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: dvb-usb: found a 'ASUS My Cinema U3000 Mini DVBT Tuner' in warm state.
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: DVB: registering new adapter (ASUS My Cinema U3000 Mini DVBT Tuner)
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: MT2266: successfully identified
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: dvb-usb: ASUS My Cinema U3000 Mini DVBT Tuner successfully initialized and connected.
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0b05, idProduct=171f
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: usb 1-1: Product: STK7700
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: usb 1-1: Manufacturer: DIBCOM
Dec 14 07:52:56 vmcur kernel: usb 1-1: SerialNumber: 7102401968

Which appears to be correct. With distro kernel and default settings at
the moment, only the vmware client extras added.

Now what? Does slack-12.2 come with a TV app I can't see, or which apps
would be worth a try? I've got KDE3 set as desktop at the moment, would
like the tuner to work on XFCE or other lightweight desktops as well.

Thanks,
Grant.

Kaffeine is kind of state-of-the-art. You can find a SlackBuild here:
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/12.2/multimedia/kaffeine/

xawtv does it as well, but be sure to take a cvs snapshot after the
latest release.
