Are there any known issues with the network performance of WPA on SLED
10.1? I have two laptops, one XP, one Suse 10.1 connected via WPA to
an Eircom router on a one megabyte link. Both laptops run Firefox but
the pages on XP render a lot more quickly.

I ran a broadband speed test using http://www.irishisptest.com/runmyspeed.php
and strangely enough the download speed on Suse is 825kps and 876kps
in XP i.e pretty much the same.

The DNS lookups on Suse seem to take a long time. You can that the
Firefox message "Looking up www.blablalbla.com" takes much longer on
Suse then XP when refreshing a web page currently on display. DNS and
IP address are DHCP on both machines.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Darrell, you are a star mate. I also disabled ipv6 on the wireless
network card.

Thanks.

Patrick.

Well known problem. It is caused by the IPV6. Look for it in the
about:config. Type about:config in the address bar and hit ENTER. In the
Filter type ipv and you should see an entry "network.dns.disableIPv6". If
the value is false, then right click on that line and choose 'toggle' and
it will change it to true. Restart Firefox. You might also search this
newsgroup to find out how to turn that off under KDE. It makes the rounds
about every month or so.

You can use SuSEconfig to disable IPv6 *systemwide* on your Suse.

In the SouthWest, my Quest DNS and/or supplied ActionTek DSL modem chokes
ungraciously on IPv6, and disabling it systemwide is the only viable
solution.

Hope it helps!

Glad it worked. And when you get an update for Firefox it might break it
again.
