I am using Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 and the Opera version 9.50 Beta 2. When
I try to download the newest version from http://www.opera.com/download/
Ubuntu says I already have a newer version. Isn't the 9.50 version on that
download page the newest? Thanks for any answer.

Maybe the old beta version looks newer for the package system because
of the number behind the "9.50". So a 'dpkg -r opera' before installing
Opera 9.50 final should help Wink

Same here with 9.50beta build 1643.
I'll be interested to read the fix for this.

Did you try to edit the file opera6.adr _not_ in your
home directory (e.g. /usr/share/opera/opera6.adr or
/usr/share/opera/locale/en/opera6.adr)?
How about the opera6.adr _in your home directory_
(/home/$YOUR_USERNAME/.opera/opera6.adr)?

BTW here are some Linux/Unix essentials:

Thanks for the suggestion but I didn't understand the dpkg -r bit. Never
been very good with terminals, they seem to be put in just to get me
terminally confused. Then I checked out Synaptic and found that I could
remove the previous Opera version and install the new one without losing
my preferences and stuff. New Opera works fine for me.

If you're using a gui file manager, such as konqueror, files and directories
that start with a period are considered hidden. You'll have to select view,
then show hidden files, to be able to see it there, or manually enter the
~/.opera in the location.

Uninstalling the test builds first seems to do the trick.
