Mark Kent is a nut.
He has escaped from the can because someone left the lid too loose.

Whyever not? There's never been a camera ban in the UN-based stuff
which I've done, nor has there been in any of the UK co-ord stuff,
either.

In a perhaps misguided attempt to hide from view, in the hope that those
most directly involved in trying to corrupt the processes and function
of ISO might not be so visible, perhaps?

Indeed, but you can /very easily/ influence debate without ever going
on the record as having done so.
>

We all *know* that there is corruption going on here, the questions are
more about how deep the corruption goes, how many people are involved,
whether there've been any more "Swedens" with real cash changing hands,
or whether we've had delegates turn up to these meetings who've never
been before.

Well, I cannot answer this. Do note that the cameras are present "on the
floor" where the final debate is taken place in e.g. UN. There is no
camera in the rooms adjecent to the "floor" where the real negociations
take place. In the BRM, the floor was where stuff was negociated.

I think it is a little far fetched. I was thinking about it today on my
way to the Danish NSB and a reason for not allowing cameras in the room
could be that most of the HoDs were "old standards people" not used to
the publicity. Well - it's just a quess.

Yes - but a camera in the room does squat to change this ... there will
always be corridor-talk - regardless of a camera in the room.

Yes, indeed. And with all due respect, Mr. Stocholm, as a Microsoft partner in
a Linux NG, is hardly worth responding to. The Microsoft partners who
subverted the process just don't like to be named (and shamed). People who
Google them find out how they screw their country and it's easier when they
have names.
The partners serve Microsoft, their paymaster. They don't serve their country.

Microsoft has partnerships with the University of Manchester. Doesn't
that mean we can't trust you?

They are just sitwarmers. Nothing to see here... they defend themselves (their
bosses) while purporting to be representative of a nation. Conflict of
interests is what they call it...
It doesn't matter how many smileys Jesper may post here. He is being
apologetic, having done the damage.

I share your suspicion. There is no excuse for trying to force this

Quite, so no viable reason for this ban, then, other than people trying

I'm an "old standards person" and we used to take photos, there was
never a problem, and we were not embarrassed about what we were doing.
No, I believe that some consciences are stirring.

No, but the camera *can* show who was doing it, because it shows who was
present, even if the meeting notes make no particular reference to any
part they took.
I was a rapporteur and delegate for many years, I know how this stuff
works.

Heah, well - I am not one of those. I was just trying to provide som
reasoning for people not wanting their pictures taken.

Do note that I myself have absolutely no problem with cameras being in
the room if they should have chosen so ... I think I have done what I can
to make it impossible to hide the fact that I was at the BRM.

But there is already a list of delegates to show who was there. Unless
you want cameras in the hallways as well, it won't do you any good.

OK
Also: I mentioned our conversation to the HoD of Denmark at the meeting
and she said that not having cameras in the room is more or less standard
ISO procedure ... it is nothing specific to the BRM. There were also no
cameras in the room at the JTC1/SC34-plenary I attended in Kyoto.

I am amazed to find Microsoft partners in a Linux newsgroup. They don't just
defend themselves. They defend OOXML now. Next step slamming the GPL?
Attacking advocates? How low has Microsoft sunk? I mean, I know the company
approaches debt and tries to hide this, but it's no reason or excuse to harass
its #1 competition.
