I presume that any perception of difference in performance depends upon the
exact amount of available shared memory for the Intel graphics adapter and
your own choice of enabling or disabling certain eyecandy that requires
accelerated 3D graphics - e.g. Compiz/Beryl/kwin4.
Therefore, I believe that if you stick to one of the plain old KDE 3 (or KDE
4 with all 3D effects disabled) or Gnome, Enlightenment, WindowMaker, XFCE,
Fluxbox et al, you shouldn't be noticing any performance losses when using
the shared memory videoadapter over using one with dedicated video
memory.
