tellin slack that i have a scsi cdrom on /dev/sc0 it still does not work,

You'll need to load a kernel that supports SCSI, or find some other way
to make sure that your SCSI card is supported.

If you're booting from the CD, press F2 to get it to show you
a list of kernels. You will see that scsi.s and scsi2.s are options.
I don't know which you will need.

If you're booting from a floppy you made yourself, then I'm sure you
can take this info and make a new floppy. Sorry I can't provide more
detail, but I've never done this in Slackware.

Also the "adaptec.s" for Adaptec SCSI controllers.

Please send information from Menphis Tennessee Smile
What's your SCSI hardware ?
Could it possibly be something under "smart array" ?
if so try the raid.s kernel, if not check with scsi
or adaptec, if all fail check with older slack or
other distro inst CD and give some info ...
See you Smile

Post subject: NIC problem [Login to view extended thread Info.]
Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

i used the adaptec scsi image. it installed great. the only problem i am
having now is that it does not see my second nic card which is a realtek
8139. i went into /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and it enabled it. when i do
netconfig it does not see it, it only sees the intel that is built into the
main board. what else can i do?

First stop top posting.

All you need to do is add a line in /etc/modules.conf for the
right module for the second NIC.

alias eth1 modulename

You don't need to include the ".o" on the end.

Then use ifconfig to test it.

ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1 up

If that works you can edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 and add the IP
address for the second NIC.

The "problem" with netconfig is that it stops detecting when it finds a
NIC. Problaly the intel is the first card.
Netconfig then writes its findings to a file called
/etc/rc.d/rc.netdevice.

An other way to make sure which is which:

Just add your rtl to that file. If you want it to be eth0, as the first
one. Otherwise at the bottom as the second one.
