Archived from groups: opera>linux (more info?)

I'm using PCLinuxOS with Opera 9.20. In 9.10 Gmail worked fine but now I
get

"Gmail requires ActiveX controls to be enabled

Your browser seems to be Internet Explorer, and ActiveX seems to be
disabled. Gmail's standard view requires ActiveX to be enabled in order to
operate.

To use Gmail's standard view, enable ActiveX controls in Internet
Explorer. You can do this by going to the Tools menu, selecting Internet
Options, Security tab, Internet zone, and either select the Default Level,
or selecting Custom Level and scrolling down to "Run ActiveX controls and
plug-ins" and selecting Enable.

After enabling ActiveX controls, try again.

To use Gmail's basic HTML view, which does not require ActiveX, click here"

no matter what I do. Basic HTML view works. URL is
https://mail.google.com/mail/
Opera 9.20 doesn't remember browser identification in Manage site
preferences... tried every option there

Anyone having the same problem? Thanks for any answer.

Did you change the basic browser identification of Opera? This defaults to
'Opera', but can be set differently in a roundabout way. But just 'Opera'
works fine for Gmail nowadays.

I have tried every browser identification. No matter what I put there it
doesn't stick. If I set mask as Firefox next time I open the same window
it says identify as Opera. But gmail always says "your browser seems to be
Internet Explorer" with disabled ActiveX.

I think I just found out what I did wrong. In Preferences -> Advanced ->
Content -> Manage Site Preferences there is a line with a folder and
https://mail.google.com/mail and I was trying to change the browser
identification on that one. The next line was a G symbol and
mail.google.com. When I changed the browser identification on that one to
Opera it worked.
