I'm thinking about going for the RHCT certification. I'm a beginner
but I have used a few Linux distros and taken a few courses.

I'm wondering: how similar is Fedora to Redhat... anyone got a link
that compares them? If I study for RHCT on Fedora am I ok? etc

Thanks

RHEL is better then fedora, now RCHT certification is using
RHEL5.1,there is a lot of difference between them.

RHEL costs $80?
Fedora is free?

They are similar, yes? How similar are they? What are a few of the
main differences? I just want to work towards a Linux certification
(eventually), and I'm not sure I want to pay to study. Perhaps RHCT is
not for me? I see CompTia and SAIR also have Linux certifications. How
do they all compare?

Any advice is appreciated

The statement that RHEL is "better" is vague. RHEL is more stable in
the time. It comes out and stays like that for a long time. Fedora has
a much shorter life time, a new version appears twice each year. For
this reason in Fedora you will see more 'new' stuff: either software/
libraries/whatever tht RedHat is thinking to introduce in a next
version or stuff which is more consumer related.

They are similar but not the same.

If you want a free version try CentOS [1][2] which is exactly like
RedHat (w/o copyrighted material like Logos, RedHat name, ...)

Fedora is the beta for the next RHEL so it looks very much like the next
RHEL. CentOS is a clone of RHEL, it's identical except for the logos.

Dennis,

The danger using Fedora as a trainigs platform for Red Hat
certifications in general: Fedora might use a gui that is not
implemented in RHEL.

The suggestion for other that RHEL cost about $80 is wrong in your case.

The RHEL Desktop is not the base for the certifications RHCT and higher
certifications are based on RHEL Server or RHEL Advanced Platform (RHCA
needs Cluster functions).

Kind regards,

RHEL is server grade software, with more stable configurations and longer
support for updates and commercial support available. Fedora has the leading,
even bleeding edge tools. If you need the latest versions of things, go with
Fedora. If you need to run stable commercial services, use RHEL.
