Archived from groups: alt>os>linux (more info?)

I've just purchased an Aspire One (Acer) because I needed an
inexpensive Linux-based system laptop.

OS: Linpus Lite - based on Fedora
(Intel Atom 1.6GHz, 8GB SSD)

The laptop goes into sleep or hibernate (not sure which) when I close
the lid. I talked to Acer tech support and they said that this is
software controlled, but that there is no easy LL GUI resolution - in
other words, no selection box to change the default as is available
with XP.

Please let me know if it is possible to keep the machine active with
the lid closed - and what changes I need to make in order to do this.

I do not know the laptop or how it is set up. HOwever, that is probably
controlled in
/etc/acpi/events/lid
or something like that.
That gives the event that acpi detacts, and what command is supposed to be
run.

EG action=usr/sbin/pmsuspend memory
or something like that.

There was an "action=" for power button off but not for lid close.

Thanks anyway... I'll keep looking.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be an option in the Aspire One BIOS.

This should be controlled in the BIOS. On my thinkpad, no matter what I
set in software settings, when I close my lid, it stays awake because I
changed this in BIOS settings.

This is not a BIOS thing. In Linux, there is a process called "acpid", which
can run commands when various ACPI events happen. Closing the lid is one of
them, as is pressing the various "Fn" key combinations.

You can try running the "acpi_listen" command--this will print these ACPI
events to the screen. Try closing and opening the lid with that running,
and see what it prints.

You need to edit

/home/user/.kde/share/config/kpowersaverc

and change ActionOnLidClose=STANDBY to ActionOnLidClose=

Hope it works for you

If you are using Linpus, you will see a plug icon at the bottom right corner.
Right click on it
Click on Configure KpowerSaver
Click on General Settings
Click on Button Events --It does not look like a button... but it is!
For Lid Close Button, select Do Nothing
Click on OK.
Very Happy
I hope this helps!

Embarassed
I forgot to mention, that if you want it to hibenate, you should select
Standby

I select
Do Nothing
since I use my AA1 as an mp3 player. I make my selection, close the lid and listen to my tech podcasts.
