I found this error too (but on a etch version).

And it seems to me that the last (security) upgrade of libxml2 and/or
libmxl2-utils caused this error.

Could you please provide the exact version number of your installed
nautilus?

Have you tried downgrading libxml2 again?

No, not yet. I first looked at the bug-reports and found this error.
Maybe not the best way.-)

_Many_ Thanks to Debian security team!!
Yesterday I up- (not down,-)graded (with the last security-packages for etch:
libtiff4-dev 3.8.2-7+etch1, libtiffxx0c2 3.8.2-7+etch1, libtiff4 3.8.2-7+etch1,
libxml2 2.6.27.dfsg-4), reboot the X-server and the problems with
nautilus are gone.

....

Because it appears the first time after I upgraded these both packages
(and my wife uses her computer _every_ day.)

And this upgrade substantiates my suspect (a little.-)

Thanks for letting us know Dieter. Seems like the bug is gone in
2.4.13-11+b1
without an update to nautilus, marking as notfound.

The bug is still present in nautilus 2.20.0-6 though. Disabling the "Always
open
in browser windows" behavior of nautilus seems to be a workaround for me.

With a new user too? I was referring to using a fresh user. Have you
enabled
"Always open in browser windows" and did you try disabling that option yet?

You should be able to use "nautilus-file-management-properties" to do that,

even though nautilus is broken.
