Where did he do that? I don't see any posts from the maintainer in the
bug report log (even the setting of pending wasn't done by someone on the
current maintainers list though they may be someone in the team.

As for the changelog no reason was given there for the move to contrib.

I took first response was from maintainer or someone involved. It seems
I am proven wrong on this assumption. I have not done enough background
check on the maintanance situation.
