I'm trying to install Fedora Core 6 on my machine. My system is as
follows:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
MSI KT3 Ultra2 Motherboard
1.5gig RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 (I believe this is my problem)
When I start the install in text mode, I get to a blue screen and my
DVD stops and that's it. When I start the install in graphical mode, I
get to a black screen with a mouse cursor (X) that I can move around,
my DVD stops and that's it.
When flipping through the screens, the last things I see are:
Ctrl-Alt-F1: Starting graphical Installation...
Alt-F2: Bash-3.1#
Alt-F3: INFO : no /tmp/fcpconfig; not configuring zfcp
I can install FC6 in a Windows VMWare session on this machine just
fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Yes, I tested it and it was fine. As I also stated, I used this same
DVD to install just fine within a Windows VMWare session. |

What worked for me was to pass it acpi=off at boot time. There are a number of
those different parameters, but this one seems to cure the problem with a number
of motherboards.

I assume you mean to type "linux acpi=off" when booting? I gave that
a shot and it stopped at the same place with the same results.

To get the Fedora 6 live CD to boot on my system I needed the boot time option
ide=nodma.

cursor. It's really ticking me off. I'll keep trying as I find more
options but I'm about to give up on my attempt at learning linux... |
