Archived from groups: opera>linux (more info?)

Hmmm... I thought I had it working, but now, if I click on a pdf link, I get
a blank page an a new empty page... Some days ago I could view pdfs without
problem, I'm not sure what changed in my system.

Now I have 8.0 final (.5 version) under Mandriva 2005. The nppdf.so plugin
is found, but I get this message in the terminal:

usr/lib/opera/plugins/operamotifwrapper-1: error while loading shared
libraries: libXm.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory

although libXm.so.1 is there in /usr/X11R6/lib. This also happens with a
clean -personaldir and I see nothing suspicious with -debugplugin.

Does Opera have read access to the .so?

a. Is acroread in your search $PATH i.e. which acroread should return
the complete path to acroread. nppdf.so needs to find acroread.

b. When you access a pdf file with Opera, are the operaplugincleaner
and operamotifwrapper processes started? (ps ux will show this)

c. And of course the obvious, plugins enabled? Preference-> Advanced
-> Downloads should show that nppdf.so is assigned to pdf file
extensions.

I should think so, it's readable to everyone. Anyway, I've run ldconfig (I
assumed it was run automatically when I installed the libraries with urpmi)
and now that message doesn't appear. Still, the plugin doesn't work (same
behaviour as before).

Hmm... I was going to write "of course, I can normally start acroread from
the command line", but then I notice I use bash autocompletion, and it
gives "acroread7" instead of just "acroread". So I made a symlink and the
behavior changed: now I don't get the aditional empty page, but opera hangs
for a while an the page where the pdf should be remains blank.

Sure, I checked that. As I said, it was working some days ago, but I can't
say exactly what has changed... I don't remember when was the last time I
viewed a pdf within opera with this computer.

I've done the windows thing: uninstall acroread and install acroread (and
acroread-nppdf and acroread-plugins, all through urpmi). Now it
seems /usr/bin/acroread has been created (as a link
to /etc/alternatives/acroread) and the plugin works in opera. I guess it
was all a problem with the Mandrake update...

Mine fails with this message with -plugindir:

opera: [plugin failed ]
/usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/Browser/intellinux/nppdf.so,
/usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/Browser/intellinux/nppdf.so: undefined symbol:
XtCalloc

Can someone tell me what where this symbol is supposed to be resolved?

This is a loooong thread, but be patience. SoeDib had the same problem
and he/she posted a solution that might work for you.

libXt.so. Which is not used by opera. I thought this problem was
fixed, though.

Thanks for the pointer, but none of the suggestions listed in that thread
worked. However, I saw no post from anyone called SoeDib.

Apparently not. When I explicitly add libXt.so to the PRELOAD path, the
plugin is recognized, however, trying to actually use it results in a
blank page.

You can try preloading libXm instead of libXt. It's possible that
libXm won't work correctly if it is loaded after libXt.

Bingo! Preloading libXm before libXt did the trick. Many thanks.

OK, now that I have the Acrobat plugin working, can anyone figure out this
problem:

If I'm running the plugin and then type F11 to go full screen, is there
any way to get out of it? The next F11 is absorbed by the plugin.

I beliege you'll have to use Acrobat's keystroke in that case. On the
windows version it's Ctrl+L...not sure about the Linux version.

Relevant portion for the above link.

Oh. Sometimes careful reading is quite helpful. I just didn't notice
that Eirik was referring to libXm rather than libXt. Yes, the problem
is solved, preloading libXm.so recticfies the situation. I've edited
the opera wrapper script (/usr/bin/opera) to automate this, before
line 52 I've inserted code:

LD_PRELOAD="libXm.so:${LD_PRELOAD}"
export LD_PRELOAD

The whole section now looks like this:
code:

# Opera enviroment
if test "${OPERA_DIR}" = '' ; then
if test -d /usr/share/opera ; then
OPERA_DIR=/usr/share/opera
else
echo "OPERA_DIR unset and not found at expected location (/usr/share/opera)"
exit 1
fi
fi

LD_PRELOAD="libXm.so:${LD_PRELOAD}"
export LD_PRELOAD
OPERA_LD_PRELOAD="${LD_PRELOAD}"
export OPERA_LD_PRELOAD

# Native Java enviroment
