It must have been *really* close to release too with the strategy guide being
available. I know it all points to a conspiracy involving Sony but has it
ever been proven?

Sony paid off the publisher. One of the contemporary DC magazines
announced the decision saying that a 'deal' had been struck where the
console version would only be released on the PS2.

Yes, and yes. Remember, people had been waiting years for this game to
appear. The release date got pushed back further and further while they
sorted out technical issues and perfected the game. Although the
Dreamcast was officially dead, there's no doubt it would still have been
a big commercial success.

To be fair - I will not buy anything from 3DO again after the M2 debacle.
This has not made a huge difference to my purchasing decisions over the last
10 years - although I really regret missing out on all those ace Army Men
games.

Look at HL2 on the xbox - it did not sell in big numbers - anyone who wanted
to play the HL games has so on the PC.
So it would not have saved the DC.
