I've lost my Cherry! :(

On http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Cherry you get instructions on how to
keep Cherry on your team, but it's not working for me! (Basically, you
get her to follow you outside, then make her wait somewhere safe, or
just outside, then go back in and kill Dukov, then go outside and
click on her.)

After doing all that correctly, she acknowledges his death, but she
still just wants to get to Rivet City, and she still gives up and
heads back to Dukov's if you keep her for five days.

I've tried it *with* killing Fantasia and *without* killing Fantasia
too, since the instructions are unclear about that. I'm playing on the
X-box, so does anyone know if Bethesda has fixed this with an upgrade
or something? Or is there something else I should be doing?

(The instructions say it should happen whether my character is a girl
or a boy, and I've only tried it as a girl so far.)

I've now tried it with a male character, both *with* killing Fantasia
and *without* killing Fantasia, but the results are just the same. She
simply says something like "So Dukov is dead. Who is going to look
after me now?" but she doesn't join you permanently. You still have to
escort her to Rivet City or lose her in five days.
