Does anyone have tips on where to go shopping for mahjong paraphenalia
(especially dice) in Shanghai, China?

The excellent FAQ section has info on Japan and Hong Kong, but I don't see
anything about Shanghai.

If anyone knows where I can get traditional playing cards, that would be
great too.

I used to live in Shanghai for 6 years approximately during my Primary
school period. I haven't been back to China for a very long time (since
1999). I suggest if you want to increase your chances of buying mahjong
sets, visit a place called "Cheng Huang Miao".

It used to be a temple, but is now a marketplace with antiques + random
shops surrounding it and an arcade centre. You should be able to find
somebody selling mahjong sets if you look hard enough.

I'm taking a big guess at this, but maybe try the department stores
like Isetan, Jusco or Carrefour (supermarket?). They might not have
them but they ought to because they sell tons of other stuff.

Much obliged!
Admittedly it's not the mahjong sets I want so much as the dice and playing
cards that might be sold at these shops.

I will certainly keep your good advice in mind.
