Post subject: Can you split a S-Video

I just bought a new DVD recorder and am wondering how to connect it to my
DirectTV system to get the best image. The system I have is quite simple:
1. Hughes 40 DirectTV Tivo - (not the HD models)
2. TV
3. The new DVD recorder (replaced my ancient broken VCR tape recorder)
My problem is I am using the S-video connection between my DirectTV Tivo and
the TV set. The TV set does not have an out S-video connection. So, now I
have the DVD recorder connected to the TV via the red-yellow-white cables
(as directed by the instructions that came with it which assume I will
record from the TV channels). This means that the signals I am recording on
the DVD (mostly movies) are passing first through the TV and probably
degraded on their way.
Since I would like to connect, if possible, the DVD using its S-video in
cable, I am wondering if there was a way to split the signal from the Hughes
DirectTV Tivo so that one cable would go to the TV and the other to the DVD
recorder.
I only watch Tivo recorded programs and do not plan to record TV channels
direct from the air to the DVD recorder. Any recommendations as to the best
way to cable the system?

I do that with a y-connector. Check any of the online electronice
houses.

Download to Video Recorder - I have a new Panasonic DVD Recorder that I have hooked up to my TIVO. Now I can download and record either to VHS or DVD. Works fine. But the Recorder came with a sample DVD RAM disc, a format I've not used before. I can get it to work with the.. |
