For a while now I have been trying to remember the name of a game I played a
year or so back. It was a space combat game with strategy/RPG elements, as far
as upgrading your ship was concerned. It was all played out in third person,
you could upgrade your ship as the game went on to destroyers or carriers and
one of the last weapon types you got was a kind of black hole/point
singularity projector. You could attach all sorts of addons to your hull like
litterally dozens of different armours, each with different effects and as the
game progressed these would increase in level/effectiveness. Also there was no
up and down, everything playing out on a flat plane but there were planets and
stars to fly around, although hopelessly out of scale. It was the typical
affair where you fight one enemy and then part through the game another enemy
is revealed, which reminded me a lot of the Bionts from Archimedean Dynasty,
before they ruined the rest of the series later on.
Anyone remember or even picture this game? I keep thinking of Star Wolves but
its not that as you can go up and down as well. |

Star Fury comes to mind as a game that is played in one level i.i.r.c. (green
grid overlay?), put out by Malfador Machinations, the Space Empires people.

No overlay in the game I am thinking of. And it was single player only. I've
been doing some more searching on google with no luck. Kind of annoying this
as I remember being bored one day and searching for space combat games and
found it by accident. You could fly into clouds of gas and hide from the enemy
in one of the levels near the end and then pop out and attack. One of the
upgrades you could attach when flying a carrier was a drone launcher but I
didn't bother with that much. |

Found it! The game was called Space Empires: Starfury. As soon as I saw the
armaments screen I knew it was the one. Recommend it if you are after
something a little different and don't let the graphics fool you as there is a
great little game trying to get out! |

Hee hee, re-read my post, that's the one I was talking about. I got a fair few
hours out of the demo. Maybe my memory fools me about the grid overlay, or
maybe you have to turn it on to see ....
cheers, -P.

So you did! I did some more searching and found a website with screenshots and
one did indeed have a grid on it but I never used it. |

I tried the demo a year or so back, but couldn't get past the single-plane
game layout. |
