I bought the GTA 4 PC game. installed it, yeah I see what all the
complainings about, but thats not my issue.
my issue is with the previous games it was possible to fire up the
game and just roam around town.
this one however it starts off at night in a car and I get out of the
car with the intention of just exploring but it tells me I have gone
to far from the other guy and ends abruptly.ie it appears it starts
off on a mission.
so I find myself asking.....is there a way to simply roam around
without playing the missions as I usually do for vice and san andreas?
thanks! |

Yes, you need to bring up the mobile phone and one of it's options is to
turn off the story mode.
Vice City starts with a mission too though, you have to drive the
solicitor to his office IIRC.

No, that's just implied as part of the introduction movie. You start
in the car after the solicitor has gotten out. You can follow the
screen infos from there and go save at your safehouse or alternatively
do whatever you want. |

yeah I'm taking the advice about just driving to the house and from
there just going out and exploring.
but I do find it irratating how game designers have a way of changing
cool things that were in the previous games thereby dumbing down the
newer game.
I liked how the older ones you just started free to roam. now all of a
sudden they start you off with a mandatory mission.
come on.why make things difficult. |

You are trying to get out & wander during the intro.
Go along with this bit...IMO its a good intro...doesn't take long and you
will be
left by that 'cousin' at a safe house where you can save an wander as much
as
you like.

Remember, it is not "dumbing down". It is "more accessible". Pretty soon the
only people who want to play any of these games will be half vegetable! |
