Archived from groups: rec>games>miniatures>warhammer (more info?)

I'm off to a good start this year. In January, I:

- built (converted) and painted my last Cryx model, a Slayer Warjack. I
added horns, reversed the stance and an arm, went with a grungy metallic
brown scheme that contrasts well against the other two (mottled green
and black).

- primed and basecoated the last of my Witch Hunters forces: Eversor
Assassin, Culexus Assassin, 3 Retinue (Servo-Skull, 2 Sages), 3 Bolter
Sisters, and 2 Heavy Weapons Sisters.

- painted the last 10 Bedford-sculpted Stormtroopers in their requisite
camo to match the rest, so now I have a full 24 Inquisitorial / IG
Stormtoopers ready to take the field!

- repainted and retouched the remaining 10 Empire Crossbows to match my
new DoW / Empire armies in purple and white / grey. That takes me to
2x14 Crossbows, if I so desire.

- painted 15 Empire Greatswords that can pull double duty as Frenzied
Doppelsoldneren in my DoW army. I went with a "brighter" technique, as
they are an elite unit.

- started assembly of 10 Heavy Gear "Gears" and 28 Pikemen. Just
finished prepping torsos and getting them on their bases. Pike men will
be on hold, as the Gears take center stage.

All in all, this January was really productive from a hobby standpoint
with 36 models "finished", and good progress on 48 other models.

Moving forward, my priorities are:

1. Finish Heavy Gear models in February.

2. Paint 5 DoW Pistol Duellists, Cannon to have a "good" (i.e.
"semi-competitive") painted 2000-pt WFB army for March gaming!

3. Start prepping and assembling Ogre Miniatures for April gaming.

4. Paint remaining (10) WH / SoB models to complete Inquisition options
for 40k IG / SM.

5. Continue selling / trading stuff I won't be playing!

Good Grief, John! As long as you are painting so much, I could use some work
on my house.
How much paint did you go through..? Three gallons?

BTW I would love to see that Cryx Slayer.
Post it on Genbus

Which color scheme are you using for the SOB?
I'm still having a hard time deciding...

I don't think a size 00 brush will do either of us much good.

Actually, hardly any. If you start with good acrylics, and work in thin
layers and light washes, your paints will last a very long time.

Yeah, I ought to take more pics...

I painted the first SoB boxed squad back in early 40k3, from the 40k2
Codex scheme. They are Order of the Valorous Heart (black, with white
gloves and inner linings).

I hate you John, I really do. I bought three more core game box sets of
Starship Troopers and a Plasma Bug, and haven't found time to paint
them, or any of the other SST stuff I have.

As soon I get my job sorted out, I'll get my (broken) digicam replaced,
so i can start taking pictures as I convert/seemble/paint. Painting is
more of a stress-relief thing anyway, and right now I'm working on
getting a new job sorted out, not dorky little toy soldiers.

I did however, purchase the double-pack of Castlevania, and that's
about all the recreation I'm doing at the moment. Once I get the career
thing established and have time for hobby-related activities, I'm
dropping a wad of cash on hirst arts molds and putting a huge dent in
eBay for Warhammer-type stuff...

and Gobbos will get their first game next Sunday.

Since the gaming group is currently focusing on WFB my next project
will be to paint High Elf spearmen.

Ohhh! Nice. Looks like the Sgt with the powerfist has an old
school beakie shoulder pad. I take it you had some old bits laying
about? I did a beakie studded shoulder pad for one of the newer
plastics by drilling holes in the shoulder pad and gluing the heads of
stick pins in the holes. Major pain in the butt and one I'll not likely
repeat as I'm not overly impressed by my own efforts.

Nice. Hmmmmm... Two plasma and no flamer for Salamanders?

> and the second Hammerhead
> http://crux.id.gu.se/LirBilder/jockelinde/hammerhead2.JPG

Can't tell if it's the lighting in the pic or not, but it almost
looks like I'd want to do one more layer of a lighter green on the edges
to pull out all the detailing and black lining you've done on this.
Otherwise, it looks sharp. (And don't shoot my bugs with that damn
thing!)

I like the Beakie with the studded shoulder, but he should have the
exposed chest cabling!

I'd finish the O&G before moving to HE, but whatever works!

I'm not huge on molds and such. Mostly, I want to finish things and
refine my gaming focus.

No, those bits are actually new. You get two studded shoulder pads
with each new tactical box.

The double flamers had the highest priority and ended up in the first
squad: http://crux.id.gu.se/LirBilder/jockelinde/salamanders1.JPG

You are probably right. The first Hammerhead got its highlights by dry
brushing. That didn't work out so well. This time I used thinned paint
for the highlights. At first I had too much thinned paint in the brush
and it either ran or created an uneven layer. After some paint was
removed from the brush the result was much better. It could use
another layer though.

Um, no, but the High Elves are my only way to play 2000 point games.
The Orcs & Goblins won't get expanded right now, since there will be
new O&G armybook later this year, and it looks like I will have less
money to spend this year.

<huge list of stuff snipped>

I think that's more than I've managed in my life.

I've not managed much this year so far, just been building a chassis for my
spare Armorcast super heavy hull from plasticard and tracks off a model kit.

http://wh40k.worldofspack.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Spack41&op=mod...d&name=

Still needs armour plating, hull underside, engine details, and
targetters/turrets adding to the sponsons. I might also knock up a
Stormblade plasma blastgun that can replace the Volcano cannon.

My list of things to do is probably more than can be fitted in a single
post, but boils down to (a) paint my remaining thousands of figures, and (b)
finish my many WIP conversions.

I'm not. No painting until football season's over. Plus I have no easily
accessible models and haven't painted much of anything in over a year.

Still, I'm looking at putting together a few small forces this year, and
I'll blog those up then.

I'm going to finish my BFG Tau fleet.
Probably going to do a 500pt or so Menoth Warmachine band
Maybe do some Orlocks if the local Nec league gets started.

OK, in Jan.:
Assemble 8 Fire Warriors and 1 Devilfish
Prime Devilfish white 2FW shadow gray and 2FW White to work out my paint
scheme.
Assemble Gundam 0083's RX-78 GP01 1/100 Master Grade who now proudly
guards my TVShow NCC-1701 on my bookshelf at work.

Oh, and telling the local game store that I refuse to buy any more GW
paint so they should stock either Game Color or Reaper Master. Purchased
Reaper Master paint Clear Blue and Ruby red for testing purposes.
