For Xmas I got Every Extend Extra for the PSP, produced by former
Segaite Miziguchi, and today I picked up Rub Rabbits for the DS from
Sega at TRU's post Xmas clearance sale for $10. Anyone else experiencing
kinda Sega for the holidays?

Well, I missed Strider ACD for my DUO because I was out of reach of a
laptop for two days. Aside from that, and my upgrading my console's
video cables over the last month, I have had a decidedly non-Sega
Christmas.

Would this be the stuff that buddy of yours no longer wanted?

Ah, I can dig it. I wish there were some quality retro gaming stores
around here. We have, like, 3. One barely ever gets any new stock in,
one over charges for all the stock they have and then final store seems
to be going for the gold by charging even more than the previous. It
really sucks.

My holiday has been more of a Square/Enix event, as loved ones help me
backfill my missing Final Fantasy games. Most of the Sega stuff I bought
for myself well ahead of the holidays, but I am going to have an
opportunity to check out a cache of unloved Master System and Saturn stuff
later this week.

No, I filtered through all that over the summer. This is more of a retail
thing, where I'm keeping an eye on a couple of stores that specialize in
retro stuff. There's a need to keep my expectations in check, but I'm also
hoping to find Neo and 3DO stuff.

I think e-bay and I just corrected this. I got manuals and/or
replacement carts with better labels for: Super Thunder Blade, Super
Hang On, Lightening Force, Maze Hunter 3D, Abrams M1 Battletank, Combat
Cars, and Samurai Shodown (Genesis), which makes my prior owned
iterations of these games complete and "near mint," whatever that
means. I also got Alien Syndrome cart only on NES from the same
seller, as well as the manuals for two of the three TMNT games (OT, I
know).

Then today, I found a decent seller from St. Louis who was liquidating
a bunch of Sega stuff, from whom I snagged Road Blasters (complete),
Cadash (complete), The Immortal (complete), Alien Storm (complete,
YES!), Rocket Knight Adventures (complete), and Streets of Rage 2
(complete) for the Genesis, as well as Fred Couple's 36 Great Holes of
Golf (32X, Complete), BC Racers (Sega CD, Complete) and Prince of
Persia (Sega CD, Complete). I am content with this deal because of the
quantity and the fairly tighty sum of less than $120. I should be able
to get some of it back in store credit locally, as I swap cart only
versions out. It may have not been much of a Sega Christmas, but it is
a better than average Sega New Year!

Well, retro is where you can make some nice incidental money. Fanboys like
me are wiling to pay for stupid stuff. However, the game business is
sustained in much the same way a pawn business is, by bringing in used
merchandise and making money from it over and over again. You can sell a
basketball game dozens of times over the course of a year, but that Final
Fantasy Vana'diel clock only sells once.

-KKC, doing dumb things with PS2 settings.

Mine's another post-Xmas one, I've got Yakuza on the way. There's also
Resident Evil 3 to get around to somewhen, which is "kinda Sega" in
the sense that I got the Dreamcast version. Smile

Hey, it's Rus!

I'd call RE3 on DC a Sega thing. I've not ever played RE3, I need to
get it and Dino Crisis on the DC at some point. I did pick up RE2 and
am loving it on the DC, wish they'd of done RE1 as well...

You know, I keep hearing about this one, but have yet to ever see or
play it. What's it all about? A shooter?

I never did care for Garou for some reason or another. I need to give
it another shot though.

I got Dune on the Genesis a while back, have yet to break it out
though. I hear the SCD version was pretty hip. Hated SW:RA. Sad

True, true. I know I have, many a time, paid unbelievable amounts of
money for a rare retro gem.

> -KKC, doing dumb things with PS2 settings.

Hehehe, well, at least you can find where to mess with them. Wink I
don't know if it's just that Sony didn't make the settings more
apparent to the user, or people just don't seem to notice them, but I
can't tell you how many times I've had to tell PS2 owning friends that
these options even exist. Wink

Sam. Showdown on Genesis!? Wasn't this the one you hated? Wink

You know, the more and more I think about how hard the original TMNT on
NES sucked, the more and more I find myself thinking "You know, it
really wasn't that bad". I don't know why...

> Then today, I found a decent seller from St. Louis who was liquidating

Ah, you bastard! Even though I have it on one of the MAT volumes, I
still want the Genesis version.

> Cadash (complete),

I don't care what Vic Ireland tells you, the Genesis version is still a
solid game.

> The Immortal (complete),

Good stuff!

I finally beat this a while back. Man, that last part in the ship's
maze is *tough*!

> Rocket Knight Adventures (complete),

Ah, early Genesis Konami...always warms my heart.

I bought this the day it came out on the Genesis, I think it was
$59.99...and worth it!

You poor bastard. Ted conned me into taking this one off his hands a
few years back...I still haven't forgiven him...Wink

> BC Racers (Sega CD, Complete)

On the forums, Man_Traic knows the guy who actually programmed this for
the SCD, and got him to sign up last night! He should stop by later
tonight(he's over in the UK) to talk to us a little bit about it. I
plan on asking him what happend with the 32X port, and praising him to
no end for the excellent SCD version.

> and Prince of

I still want to get this one. I haven't really played a console version
of it at all, just on the PC(back on a 386 no less).

*WHAT!?* What happened to "I don't have any money for an Xbox 360 for
my new HDTV" talk? Wink

Hmmm, definitely sounds worth looking into....and damn you for bringing
up the Gauntlet! It's always $30+, no matter where I go...or I'd own
it. Wink I think it's the only next-gen-ish Gauntlet that made it to the
DC, right? The next was Dark Legacy, I believe, and I know that made it
to the Xbox.

You better hurry...Benstylus only needs two more games and he'll have
you beat on that. Wink Me, I'm actually contemplating trying to acquire
every US-released Xbox game out there(and, well, let's be honest, there
pretty much are *only* US-released Xbox games). Wink I doubt I'd ever be
able to pull it off...but maybe in another year or so it'll seem
possible.

Agreed.

Hmmmm, I wonder is the Genesis version is based off that as well, or
what. From what I saw of the little I played, it reminded me a bit of
Command and Conquer. In fact, it's a lot like the C&C hack/homebrew rom
for the Genesis....

It seems like Sega's SW Trilogy borrows more than a bit from it, so I
guess we can thank it for that.

Alright, yeah, that's what I thought. BlockBuster is having a 25% off
sale right now on all used games, I happened to see G: DL for around
$15 so I may stop by and pick that up(cheaper than the DC original,
which kills me).

> and Seven Sorrows

Man, I really want to try this one. It looks so much like PSO, you know
it's gotta be pretty good. Plus, free online play with up to three
other people! Anyone here ever tried it?

Well, it was a Midway game, so I would not question that at all. All of
their(Midway) launch games had two versions(Hydro Thunder, MKG, that
boxing game), and that's confirmed. I wonder what the markings are, if
any, for the second edition of GL is? For the other stuff, version 2.0
is marked with a "Hot, New!" green sticker on the game's manual.

I think it's Monaco GP and Quarterback Club? He bought them off a guy
on my forums, but the guy's been really sick and hasn't been able to
send them out yet, so we'll see how that goes. I need to email Ben and
see if he got them. In the meantime, sure, take a look and see if you
have dupes for those two, I'm sure he'd appreciate it and I could let
him know(he doesn't visit RGVS much anymore). Smile

Sounds like that "World War III" game. Wink

Ah, that's too bad, the trailers for it looked pretty good. Sad Yeah, I
agree, those Norrath titles look damn good! I hear they were coded by
ex-Lobotomy programmer Ezra Dreisbach even.

Of course man, because *everything* in Japan is better than *anything*
in the US! Wink

I'll do some digging and see what I can find...
