Post subject: Question about ion storms
Archived from groups: alt>games>vga-planets (more info?)

Hello everybody,

long time ago i posted in this V3 Newsgroup ... anyway need to find an
answer to an unexpected behaviour.

Game uses latest timhost, raceplus, abhost.

Two turns ago a base build an mbr on a base inside a dangerous ion storm
(177 meV). Donovans said a ship with enough mass won't suffer damage/crew
looses ...

Anyway, put 120KT Tritanium und Board and Maximum Fuel and tried to escape:

Turn after: MBR has had 75% damage used 4 KT of fuel and moved about 18lys
(after pulled 36lys by Ionstorm)

second Turn after (actual): MBR still have 75% damage and used another 4kt
of Fuel to move 18 lys after storm pulled the ship 36lys ...

So here is the question: Why does my mbr suffered damage as "update cargo
transfers" are in a early stage of host way earlier than ion storm
movement/ion storm damage ships.

Probably host uses ship mass in the beginning of the hostrun? Because first
ship build is AFTER ion storm moving/damaging ships.

Any ideas?

Thx

Mydgard

I believe for situations like Ion storms, the mass of the ship is
always the *base* mass of the ship. You can't change this mass by
putting cargo onto the ship (or even by changing what weapons you put
on).

MBRs are always 90 tons, no matter what, for the purposes of Ion
storms and Mine hits, etc. I'm pretty sure one mine hit will always
blow up an MBR, no matter what cargo it is carrying.

Exactly. Look for
Figuring mass of all ships.
in host.log. This is where HOST.EXE recomputes ship masses. The first
such line appears AFTER ion storm effects. Thus, mass changes from the
current turn do not take effect for ion storms.
