I knew that Fallout 3 would be a good game but I had my doubts about
whether it would be a great game from what various people posted here
or said to me. I'm very glad to have been proven wrong about that.
Fallout 3 is hands down the best game I've played in this generation
so far (and that's saying a lot coming from someone who has so
adamantly advocated Bioshock and Uncharted these past two years).
Hell, it's one of the best games I've ever played, period.

It started out a little slow for me and after a couple of freezes (and
the first RROD while I was still taking the T.O.A.D.), I was ready to
just throw it on the backburner. The 3 weeks I waited due to RROD
weren't that bad.

However, when I got my system back the first time and decided to give
Fallout 3 another shot, I discovered a vast world waiting to be
explored and an itchy trigger finger ready to take out anyone who got
in my way. Bethesda deserves all the applause they can get because
they truly resurrected a classic franchise and made it relevant and
important to the gaming world once again. This is easily the Game of
the Year.

That second RROD was Hell for me. I eventually decided to just buy a
Jasper Arcade unit and of course the first thing I did was pop Fallout
3 in there and continue the journey. I haven't even gotten halfway
through the main quest and I already know that this is my favorite
game of the generation. I've been spending all my time just exploring
the Wasteland and discovering as many locations as possible. I have
about half the map unlocked at this point.

Anyway, if you haven't yet given Fallout 3 a shot, there's no reason
to wait. This is *the* game to play on either system. Hell, you can
still get the Collector's Edition in some stores (and you can always
use a lunchbox, right?).

I am finding the game getting better, but not near anything that you have
described. I am still pissed that I lost the 15 hours I had into the game,
which included a great deal of exploring. After starting over, I was just
not interested enough to explore those areas again since they are more side
quest oriented then main quest. I am now about ready to go to "Rivet City"
in my venture to find my father. I am now about 9 hours into the game.

I can say one thing though, I had none of the issues that some here say they
experienced; freezing and the RRoD. Of course I have the Jasper, but I still
experienced no lock-ups. The game plays real smooth and aside from very
minor texture pop-ins, the graphics are nice, but muddied.

Mine never red-ringed but it did randomly crash pretty frequently and
I still kept playing. How many games can you say that about? I mean,
really...

The ant thing was incredibly frustrating... but I still kept
playing...

Fallout 3 is like crack. Good thing they didn't do something crazy and
make it multiplayer or something.

Funny, I just bought it last night (after reading Wired's
retrospective and hearing about the new DLC). So far, it's been a
blast...all the best elements of Oblivion without many of its annoying
weaknesses. And the VATS system is great (especially if you're like me
and tired of twitch-quick FPS's). Voice acting and story are top-notch
too.

Yeah when all of the new games came out this Fall/Winter , the first
game from those many games , was Fallout3 and it stayed there until I
had upwards of 110+ hours on my gamesave ,while neglecting all my
other games , I couldn't pull Fallout3 out of my 360. I ended up
collecting every bobble head and doing every little side mission I
could. Fallout3 is a great game. I didn't think I would end up using
the VATS combat , but I ended up using it 99% of the time. It fits the
RPG genre pretty well. Plus once you get up to level 20 you can roam
the wastleand with little fear on a harder difficulty. Especially if
and when you get Fawkes on your side. He's seemingly invincible, he
didn't die once from enemies , but I had to test out his strength by
killing him and he's stronger than a behemoth mutant, took longer to
kill anyways.

Here's some help with Bobble's , after I found 15 of them I could'nt
seem to have luck with the others , so I used a little 'help' from
YouTube-Hopefully you haven't destroyed Megaton yet , there's a
strength bobble there.

Concur a 100%... best adventure game I've played in a long, long time,
and hilarious to boot. How it didn't unanimously get GOTY across the
board from most people is a real mystery.

I think I've played about 40 hours and have not yet made it to Rivet
City. I just finished the Museum of Technology but I think I'm still
quite a ways away, distance wise, from Rivet City. The D.C. area
annoys me because it seems like the only way to get from once place to
another is to stumble around in the subway tunnels.

I experience more lock-ups now than I did with my non-Jasper unit. I
also notice a lot more pop-ins than I did with the non-Jasper unit.
Both are just observations and could be coincidences.

The only time I see muddied graphics is at dawn and dusk. I think
that's more a trick of the mind than anything else. Especially when I
have the console set up with the plasma television in the bedroom, the
graphics are crisp and stunning - for what they are (obviously this
game is no Gears of War 2, Uncharted or even LittleBigPlanet).

I remember hearing people talk about the ants. When I encountered
them, I found myself wondering what exactly the big deal was. I take
them out with ease all the time.

Interplay is supposedly working on an MMORPG game set in the Fallout
universe. Did you see this interesting article about the history of
the franchise?

You're welcome to your opinion of the game. I happen to think it's the
greatest game so far in this generation.

One of my buddies, who's even more in love with the game than I am,
described VATS to me when the game first came out. I kept thinking
that I would hate it because I'm a huge fan of shooters and like the
challenge of having to accurately aim at the enemy. However, VATS is
just damn fun to watch. I tend to use up all my action points as
quickly as possible and then engage the enemy in standard shooting
gameplay until my action points regenerate enough for me to have
another go at it.

I have similar trouble removing the disc from my console. I think it's
some sort of psychological condition because it's almost like the disc
drive is glued shut. LOL

I don't think I'm anywhere near 110 hours but then again I lose track
of time when I play this game. I experienced a similar euphoria when
playing BioShock and, a little further back in history, GTA: San
Andreas.

I haven't even really thought about that. I did glance at a guide that
stated I had to look out for one when I returned to Vault 101 (damn
spoiler). I already got the one in Megaton.

Same here. I love my shooters so when my friend described it to me, I
was skeptical I'd like it but I tend to favor it because of how fun it
is to watch.

My friend said the exact same thing. He kept going on about Fawkes. I
myself am more interested in Charon who is supposed to be the toughest
hireling you can get. I like him more because of his disinterest in
your alignment - I don't want to have to be at best behavior all the
time with Fawkes and I can't be evil enough to attract many of the
other followers.

I disarmed the bomb. Megaton is too useful as a base of operations. As
annoying as Moira is, she gets major kudos for always have a ton of
money to sell off all the scraps I pick up in the Wasteland.

There are some people who simply will not play an RPG. I'm not a big
fan of them but Bethesda did a great job creating a compelling game
world. Honestly, I think it's the world and the story itself than the
gameplay mechanics. If this were a purely first-person shooter (from a
gameplay perspective), I would like the game just as much.

Charon is quite good to have to, he has some funny things to say as
well. He has by far the best scene in the game, after you aquire
Charon's contract , watch the hilarity to ensue, I won't ruin it if
you don't already know what happens. I did have Charon with me for a
time after a game-save , but it wasn't until I got Fawkes I felt
invincible anywhere in the Wasteland. Fawkes doesn't need any armor or
weapons ,as his infinite gatlin laser rapes just about anything you
come accross. Charon also has a sweet default shotgun also with
unlimited ammo. But you'll need to ammo him up if you want him to use
other weapons. But his shotgun is awesome, why not let him use it.
Weapons make him warm..heh..

Charon isn't nearly tough as Fawkes, the DeathClaws will kill him as
will the Giant RadScopians with ease, but Fawkes is nearly invincible
against any creature in the game. Fawkes didn't die at all the entire
time I played, only when I killed him.. Charon on the other hand I
could kill pretty easily , and the DeathClaws can kill him pretty
quick, but he does make for an interesting helper. I think Charon's
health is around 250-320? While Fawkes is a solid 500. Beside you
can't get Fawkes until the very last few main story missions. So you
can have Charon for a time, until you decide yo upgrade.

Here's a video of how to get Charon's contract , allthough I would
suggest STOP watching the video at 2:55 DON'T ruin the surprise, you
should see it Firsthand in game, when I saw it , I laughed my ass off
for about 30min after, very good scene and it kinda took me by
surprise. heh , it's a very simple scene but very funny, I don't know
why it was so funny, it was just unexpected at the time.

Also did you get the Ghoul Mask yet? Its pretty hand to have

Also if you ever decide to have Fawkes in your party , get at least a
CHarisma of 10 , some quests will be failed immediately because humans
don't like mutants, and will cause some otherwise friendlies to become
hostile. Reilly's Rangers for example. But if your CHR is 10 , this
will negate those effects. Nobody will bother Fawkes , unless you
attack them , then of course Fawkes will defend you at all costs. He
also can carry 229 pounds of equipment

Star Paldin Cross will die all the time, which became annoying ,
unless you equip her with the T51b Power Armor , she's useless, some
say when she's equipped with such armor she's stronger even than
Fawkes, but since the armor needs constant repair, I stuck with Fawkes
who has the best overall of all the NPC , he doesn't need armor , he
doesn't need any stimpacks, all he needs is his default Gatlin Laser
and he's ready to go.And he's highly skilled in all weapon forms, all
the other NPC I believe are limited to 2.

My advice would be to use Charon for awhile, then when you get
Fawkes , trade up. Trust me , you'll be very pleased.

There's also a badass Gatlin Laser in the DeathClaw sanctuary, called
Vengeance make sure you have the dart-gun though if you tread there .
I think perhaps Fawkes has the same Gatlin equipped?

Dart-guns disable Death-Claws legs and thet can't charge at you, it
will slow them down enough to kill with ease.
DeathClaws can be very deadly without the dartgun used on them.

I did end up with DogMeat with me for awhile in the beginning , but
he's just too weak for me, although he's good to go fetch ammo for
you. The good thing though you can have DogMeat and any other NPC with
you. But mainly he just stayed at my house in Megaton, just because he
dies way to easily. 2-3 swipes from a DeathClaw and he's toast.

Thene there's ALien Blaster and the Firelance weapons (both use alien
ammo) ...oh man what an awesome , game , I could go on and on for
hours all of the cool stuff in Fallout3........ Still though my
favorite weapon was the BlackHawk , it's a better version of the
scoped .44 magnum.

The A3-21's plasma rifle was also much used, very good,as well as
Lincoln's repeater rifle, then there's the XUANlongs chinease assualt
rifle.whew,, still though I liked the Blackhawk even though it wasn't
the most powerful , it had a scope to take out long distance targets.
very usefull in the wastland

But my standard loadout was the Terrible Shotgun (the best shotgun in
the game) also the A3-21's plasma rifle, (best plasma rifle) , and the
BlackHawk (the best scoped magnum in the game) doubles as a sniper
rifle.

I was thinking of getting this for the PS3 -- at the risk of starting
another fanboi fueled flame-war, can somebody please explain to me (in
rational terms) the alleged problems of Fallout 3 on the PS3?
