I had a gaming system put together in part by me and had Gears of War
running. It ran great. My next feat was to put TRA on it.
Not sure what I did now, but I get a Blue Screen with a message that
reads Stop: 0X000000A5 and 0001000A and a bunch more zeros.
I read something about Enabling ACPI SXDT TABLE, but can't find that
option in Bios. This is in Vista.

Mmmm. ACPI is all about power control and cooling and whatnot, so I'm not
sure that'll help. Does your rig meet the minimum spec?
I understand that VISTA should run TR fine, but I know from writing
installers for my company that VISTA can be a bit of an arse and things like
UAC can mess up just about anything.
A couple of suggestions:
1] Ensure your drivers are fully up to date (download and install the latest
graphics and sound card drivers from the manufacturers website)
2] If it still crashes, Turn OFF UAC (use the VISTA help files to see how to
do this) Reinstall TRA and see if that helps.
3] If it still crashes then try running in compatability mode with an
earlier OS
And thats me out of ideas.
Hope one of those works or someone else can come up with a better idea!

Duncan,
Sounds like good suggestions, all I have to do is figure out how to
get it up and running again. It boots up to a blank screen and in safe
mode is when I get the error messages.

When exactly does the error appear? During installation, or once you start
the game? Is there anything else useful on the blue screen? Does it mention
graphics drivers? As per Duncan's post, I'd think it highly unlikely that
it's anything to do with ACPI BIOS.
What spec is the machine that you've built? Is any or all of it new?

None of it is new. The error shows up on boot up. The game and O/s was
installed already. Both worked fine, but it kept shutting down. I tried
disabling the Firewall (yes...big mistake) and it worked fine. The next
time I tried to boot up...nothing.

Did it give a reason for shutting down?
When you say it shows at boot-up, exactly which part of boot up? Are you
using XP/Vista etc?
What hardware changes did you make? Just wondering if you may be overloading
the power supply? What spec is the machine - i.e. processor, RAM etc?

During Vista boot-up in safe mode. I have a a8n-sli premium
motherboard. x64 2.2 ghz and 1.785 gigs ram.
I think part of the problem was when I installed the sli which I am
not real familar with.
I am going to try a Vista recovery cd. I was able to make a boot
floppy, but it wouldn't recognize either md cd or dvd drives. It shoots
on the boot menu though. Was able to boot into safe mode once.

Ah! Sorry. I misunderstood. I thought you were having trouble launching the
game.
As john suggests, check that your power supply has enough 'grunt' to run
your rig. The SLI will be sucking a fair bit of juice.
You could try pulling the card and seeing if you boot up then?

What SLI graphics cards do you have? The last time we discussed gfx cards on
here, you seemed to be swaying towards ATI-based cards.

Yes, I was swaying toward ATI Based cards as my, maybe soon to be old,
computer could only support AGP 4x. This new one support PCI-e cards.
Not sure if the Bios has been flashed or not. Did get it up and
running again, but it still just shuts itself off. I will check with
someone tomorrow that builds computers as a hobby and see what he might
be able to find out.

That motherboard and chipset happen to work better with nVidia SLI cards.
But he certainly doesn't have to use the SLI. The P0 slot can be used for a
single 16x PCIe vid card. Since its earlier technology, there is a "switch
plate" that has to be reversed on the mobo to enable or disable SLI.

Um, Albert, that sounds like my motherboard. It's a Gigabyte K8N-SLI or GA
K8N-SLI. Using an A64 X2 4800+ (2.4 gHz) and 4 x 1gig PC3200 DDR ram.
There is a choice in the BIOS to set the machine state to either AT or ACPI.
The default for the motherboard is ACPI machine. If the OS is installed
with the mobo in one state, then the machine *must* boot with that state
selected or the OS won't boot. And it doesn't matter whether it's XP or
Vista, same thing applies. Gigabyte has a couple of utilities that run in
windows that could possibly let you change that setting from windows. The
next boot won't happen though, unless you go into the BIOS and set that
machine spec back to what it was. You'd need to press CTRL-F1 at the
opening BIOS menu to get the extra Advanced options that have that option in
it.
I doubt that is what happened though.
Also, Gigabyte has an GA 8N-SLI which is for Intel LGA775 CPU and the GA
K8N-SLI which is for AMD socket 939 CPU's.
You say you installed the SLI. WHAT did you install exactly? And, both of
those motherboards have a 'SLI Switchplate' located flat down on the
motherboard between the two PCIe 16x slots. If you are using just one video
card that plate has to be turned one way, and if you are using 2 vid cards
in SLI it has to be turned the other way. There is also an SLI bridge
adapter that goes across the tops of the two cards in SLI and a steel
bracket that holds that adapter in place. Did you get all this done when
you "installed the SLI"?

I think it's an Asus mobo.
http://uk.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=15&l3=148&l4=0&model=539&modelmenu=1
If it is, then it doesn't have the reversible SLI card from the image. Seems
strange, as my nephew's old Asus board (Socket 775 in a 1.5 year old Mesh
computer) did have the reversible SLI card. Anyway, that's besides the
point...I'm downloading the manual for a look now.
Albert - what gfx card/cards have you installed into it?
