Hi folks,
I'm interested in any recommendations for IF games for 6-8 year old
kids.
I've done a search here and got seen some suggestions (Mother Loose,
Not Just an Ordinary Ballerina, Nine points, The Underoos That Ate New
York etc) but many of those were from posts over 5 years old.
Any other recommendations, perhaps taking into account more recent
games?
Cheers,
Minty

I just played the first half of "The Chasing" and I think it would be
appropriate.

Oh, you might also want to check out the other games by the same
author as wrote "The Chasing". I get the feeling they are all kinda
in the same vein.

Two entries in the recent Beginner's Comp might be possibilities, "Mrs.
Pepper's Nasty Secret" and "The Sleeping Princess." There are always
some kids who like "Dragon Adventure," too.

This isn't exactly an answer to your question, but in case you're not aware
of IFDB, this is just the sort of thing that its Recommendation List system
is for. I don't think there are any existing lists like this, so if I may
offer a suggestion, you'd be doing a big favor to the *next* person who asks
this question if you'd be willing to create a list with the results of your
current hunt. The site is ifdb.tads.org.

What's the problem? Would you not recommend Alice in Wonderland,
Aesop Fables or The Hobbit to children? Even literature from 3000
years ago is entirely new to them. |

Thanks for the tips. I'll give them a run and see how things go, then
report back here in a month or so!
Cheers

Having only recently rediscovered IF (so, um, some things have changed
since Advent on a Vax, huh?) I was only obliquely aware.

Sounds good to me. I'll see how the youngster enjoys some of games and
if there's enough for a recommendation, I'll post some results there.
I'm also going to take some 11-12 yr olds through the very basics of
Inform as an IT/creative writing exercise (I'm not a teacher, just on
the board, so it'll be pretty free-form!) and if they show interest
and get into it, I'll try and get something happening at that age
level too.
Cheers,
Minty |

Yes, sure. They weren't written with hi-tech, internet-age 5-year
olds in mind. |

Surprising lack of foresight on behalf of the authors, really. Still,
the books seem to do have done fairly well... |
