| I don't know what I should do, I have assault on black reach but I don't
know I don't really like Orks, and I really like tyranids but don't know if
it is worth the cost of just buying a new army if I already have a
sufficient one. But I really would like some help with my decision. btw I'm
new to this group.

Well, if you are worried about cost you may be in the wrong hobby.
IMO it's good to have a varietey of stuff to paint. So having a couple
hundered points of orks lying around for when you just can't take
painting another 'Gant. The downside to taht is you may wind up with
half a dozen armys and nothing ready to field on game night.
Or try to trade orks for bugs. I traded a mega gargant for a
Dreadnought before. |

There is no "should" (Unless it's 'think for yourself').
You just collect the models you like and what happens, happens.

Just ask yourself, "Why do I want to play 40k?"
Most players get into it from palling around with friends.
Those friends then discuss the armies/ models with each other.
Because, when did asking an international group of strangers ever
work?
> I really would like some help with my decision
You've already decided - you've stated that you like Tyranids.
The mantra is "collect the models you like". So you're done.
Collect, and soon enough, you'll have an army. Done.
There, that wasn't so hard, was it?
> I'm new to this group
No! Really? Well then, read or bleed, newbie:
http://www.rgmw.org/
Blackheart will be along directly to give you the official welcome.
The good Doctor will administer your RGMW "orientation".
Myrmidon will then vet your aspiring Nid Player status.
(Not everyone has what it takes. There's a test.)
Welcome to RGMW, the group with a money-back guarantee -
"You'll not find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

Hopefully, someone will direct you to the archived "out-takes" for the
group, if they're still around (I can't remember where). They will
broaden your mind, and probably vocabulary - they give a good idead of
the treatment that can be handed out to innocents who stumble into
this cess-pit, let alone what passes for social intercourse between
the regulars.
As for army choice, the best advice is that imparted to me by an
ancient sage (Phil Barker?) when I was a Newbie, sometime in the Late
Paleolithic: "Buy an army you can love even when it looses". You'll
probably spend more time alone with those little buggers building and
painting them than they will on the table, so be sure you will enjoy
that part of the hobby. Also having figures everyone drools over
helps the ego when they can't fight a damn - that's why I'm a
potential Ork player, as they still have the most scope for
scratchbuilt Heath-Robinson machinery, and I probably have more fun
torturing styrene than I do gaming (not that I'm doing much of either
at the moment). OTOH, 'Nids go together relatively quickly, and can
look awesome - and there will be plenty of advice available here
concerning the relative merits of "swarm" and "Nidzilla" armies.

Moramarth |

I've got the Outtakes in .pdf and .odt, if anyone would like them. I
think there may be a few duplicate one-liners in the document, but I've
been trying to weed them out.

Very good advice!

It was cold, the world was grey, and sullen. The gates were dark and
foreboding, with a nine-sentence warning stamped into a plate above the
porticullis. Unfazed, "xzibith" <xzbith DeleteThis @th.com> nervously placed one foot
unto the threshold:

Hey there person with the unpronounceable name!
For now we'll go with Exhibit.
A couple of things:
First off you have introduced yourself well and will be treated well by the
people here. All of them (Except Smithdoerr, who steals elections) are
decent folk.
Second, and I give you a great deal of credit toward your intelligence for
this, you bottom posted. Good job.
To get to the meat of the matter: Buy the army that you think is cool. Last
week my Orks were absolutely annihilated by space marines. Last time we
played, I won. It's about the fun of the game. I know you don't want to seem
to be a pushover, or easy win for someone, but the truth is, if you put your
army together well, most of the time you will have a blast and do very well.
Oh, and get Tyranids. Nobody but Myr plays that army anymore. So no one
knows how to beat them. |
