I've tried a holy/disc build and a disc/holy build for PvP healing and
I preferred the holy/disc build.
Pain suppression was nice but I didn't like the fact that it was a
short duration with a longer cooldown meaning that at least 50% of the
time you needed it it was on cooldown. Also, pain suppression has
also been nerfed for PvP since I tried it (in my opinion anyway). I
never really liked reflective shield as you don't see any benefit from
it.
I really like the passive talents in the holy tree that give you
enhanced survivability - Spell Warding, Blessed Recovery and Blessed
Resilience. The first reduces spell damage taken, the second heals
25% of the damage caused by melee (and ranged?) crits and the third
gives a chance (up to 60% I think) of making you immune to crits for a
while after receiving a crit.
I would probably take silent resolve for the same reason as you would
(although looking at my last PvP build I didn't) but as you say it's
questionable whether it's worth it. I suppose that we have shamans,
priests, hunters, warlocks with a felhunter and warriors (only certain
specs?) that have dispel magic as an offensive ability and as a healer
we're not overly bothered about someone dispelling our dots.
Other talents I like are in the lower half of the Disc tree - Imp
Fortitude, Imp PW:S and Improved Mana Burn. The mana burn is a good
damage ability 1v1 against Warlocks, Paladins (and probably Mages with
mana shield up) but I'm not sure how good it is in group PvP for a
healer. It is probably a good thing to have in 2v2 arenas though.
