Anyone got any? Apart from my usual 'I WILL quit smoking', 'I WILL lose
at least 2.5st' and 'I WILL cut down significantly on my caffeine
addiction', my aim is to finish 52 games this year, and play more than
I currently do. And to finish the year with no more than 10 more games
in my collection than I started it with. I am also going to finish all
my current backlog:
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
Beautiful Katamari
Crackdown
Devil May Cry 4
FIFA 09 (1k)
Gears Of War (Insane)
Gears Of War 2 (Insane)
God Of War 2
Grand Theft Auto IV (100%)
Half Life 2/Ep1/Ep2
Hitman Blood Money
Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
LittleBigPlanet
Mass Effect
Professor Layton
Pure
Rock Band (Guitar and drums expert)
Soul Calibur IV
Tiger Woods 09 (1k)
Tomb Raider Legend
Tomb Raider Anniversary
As well as buy and finish MGS 3 and 4. And replay through Shenmue,
Shenmue 2 and Sonic Adventure (which I started 2 hours ago and have
played through the Sonic story and am halfway through the Tails one, so
that should be fairly straightforward).

You're going to finish a game a week? That seems rather ambitious!

That's the aim. 10 hours a week, should be doable.

This must be the real reason you don't play RPGs. Average completion time
is about forty hours, which means eight hours a day over one week of
playing (if you count 16 hours to explore and revert to old saves when you
screw up).
You know, now that I think about it I've never liked the hour as a unit of
measurement for gameplay. I like to think of it in terms of days, whether
I play fifteen minutes or five hours. When I'm done, I'm done for the day,
and what enjoyment I get out of one hour isn't necessarily equivalent to
the next hour's worth.

My unit of enjoyment is a game. That's probably related to how I can't play
more than one at a time. If a game is incomplete, I can't determine whether
I'm enjoying any of it's current playtime yet.
Issues.

I'd be interested to know what those medical reasons were.
I've been having 2-3 coffees a day since I became an office worker
(over 15 years now) but, fortunately, haven't yet observed anything
that would force me abandon this habit.
It feels somehow natural to make yourself a coffee when starting your
routine PC workday innit?

Not speaking about Snappa's reasons in particular, but I know caffeine
aggravates heart conditions and can inhibit some normal functions of
respiration. It also make some medications less effective, like
antihistamines and pain relievers. Like all things, it's only a problem in
really high quantities. Three cups a day isn't medically unsound.
Recently it was discovered that caffeine is a mutagen. There's a small
uptick in abnormal human sperm morphology since 2002 that might be related
to caffeine consumption, but there's no reliable data to back that up yet.
There was also a recent controversy in which caffeine was going to be used
as an environmentally-safe method of pest control:

Ha, I was routinely drinking 2-3 filter jugs a day for several years.
Then in my late 20s a combination of my father being terminally ill and
work problems manifested themselves in massive anxiety attacks which
went on for over two months and routinely lasted most of the day -
difficulty breathing, radial numbness in my left arm, sensation of my
heart stopping while trying to sleep - the symptoms were close enough to
heart attacks to cause me to admit myself to casualty where it
transpired there were no diagnosable problems with my heart, but it
didn't stop the anxiety attacks. A process of elimination led me to a
food scientist who did allergy tests on me for everything under the sun.
Nothing showed up particularly until he tested me for caffeine.
I haven't drunk much in the way of caffeinated coffee since - the
occasional cup once in a blue moon. I still drink tea though, but that's
about 1/5th strength and I only drink about 4 cups a day. |

If I drink four cups of caffeinated tea in one day I know about it. I
get all stressed out and grit my teeth, and it makes my guts feel
tense. I signed out of the tea kitty at work for this reason... it was
just doing my head in!

I have a small backlog at the moment.
I want to finish Mercenaries 2 and Far Cry 2. Plus I need to try Siren
again - I tend to forget to play games I have downloaded, maybe it is
because I have no physical box to remind me I actually have a game. |

Just an update - Far Cry 2 is not going to get finished. This is one
terrible game and its little wonder I haven't played it in a few months.
The AI is some of the worst I have ever seen in a game. Its all very well
having pretty fire effects but if they cannot even get the basics right then
what is the point? |
