Just watched the 230MB video of X3. New models look good and all that but as
far as a taster for the gameplay is concerned it has nothing. All it does is
show some of their funky new artwork. At the end it even has the same kind of
blurb that the original X had, the stuff about fighting, trading etc. Can't
help thinking this is going to be a rehash of X2 and that Egosoft are going
down the Derek Smart route of sequels.

Well, to be honest, X2 was mainly a rehash of X and X-Tension. I tend
to think of the X series as a single evolving game rather than a set of
discrete sequals. I am expecting X3 to be a facelift and
feature-fillout for X2. Hmm, I guess that is kind of like BC3000AD...

The art in the demo was ok, but it lacked anything really exciting, and
gave no indication of features. By far the highlight of the demo was
the music. It was excellent and suited the game perfectly.

I think the main benefits of X3 that we will all enjoy, is

a) New engine, allowing new scale of ships, new sector layouts and much
bigger sectors. This is great as long as they provide a way to travel
through those sectors quicker, even SETA X10 was enough for me in X2 Smile

b) New economic model. This is probably this biggest one really, its going
to be completely redone with help from the community, i.e. the more well
known and skilled community modders etc have given direct imput into the way
the economic model runs. This might mean sweet f all, but lets just hope
that its better. If we have a working economy, this game could have a LOT of
life in it.

This has likely been said before, but... - ....someone really needs to liscence that 'Celestia' universe simulator and design the ultimate Privateering game around it. I mean, for crying out loud, even the camera controls feel damn near perfect for piloting a ship of sorts (in a non-Newtonian...
