We are happy to announce that Empire 4.3.18 is now available. You can

This release fixes a serious bug that crept into 4.3.17.

Deities are urged to use this release for new games. Upgrading
mid-game is generally not supported, but you can upgrade from 4.3.17
to 4.3.18. Upgrading from older versions is expected to result in
total disaster. Fine print: you should be able to upgrade from 4.3.16
or later with the empdump utility, if you know what you're doing.

There is no separate client release 4.3.18, as the client did not
change since 4.3.17.

This release was made from the Git repository at

* Fix building of planes, land units and nukes with uids that have
never been used before. This could crash the server on some
systems in certain states. Broken in 4.3.17.

sourceforge.net.

These aren't made, endorsed or supported by Wolfpack in any way. They
may be useful to you all the same.

I'm an old empire player (used to play a country called Laurasia in
the mid-late 1990s) and have recently become interested in the game
again (for reasons I'll address in another topic shortly). Just
wanted to add that as part of checking out the state of the game I
downloaded the Win32 binary of the emp server and was very pleasantly
surprised at how stable and cleanly the server operates.

For new deities - there's still quite an uphill climb figuring out how
to get the server going. It's certainly not for the faint of heart.
And with the apparently loss of Chad Zabel's Deity's Handbook (looked
for it everywhere and couldn't find a copy anywhere, despite links of
all kinds from the Wolfpack site) many of the steps to get the server
up and running aren't obvious. But when you do get it running, I must
say I found it pretty solid. This is in contrast with the
compilations that used to be available back when I last played where
I'd often encounter people who scoffed at the idea of getting the
server running on Windows.

Just to contribute one element missing from the accompanying
documentation - the default deity login (or country name) is POGO with
the default "Player name" or password being "peter" (which is case-
sensitive). It's also important to run files.exe before attempting to
run the server, and to set the Deity info within the econfig file.
With these steps followed, you can run the Empire Server on Windows 32-
bit without any trouble from the looks of things...

You are indeed correct! See excerpt below:

* Log in as deity POGO with password peter. This guide assumes
you use the included client `empire', but other clients should
work as well.

My rapid perusal of the file cost me this critical piece of info.
