Well that's a surprise, given you're apparent ambivalence (leaning towards
the negative) about the game (or was that Shawk? :-/). Let us know if the
game gets better when you pay for it Mark - a lot of ppl here seem to be
under that delusion <EG>.

Ok, now you got *me* in two minds about this puppy. I guess proof of the
pudding, as always. Probably take 3 weeks to d/l the 'demo' lol. Why is it
that tv series seem to come down so much quicker than torrented games, even
if there's the same number of seeds/peers? Weird.

Seems to me that ID have rested on their laurels since their first 'freedom
of movement' game Doom. This game seems very dated and just doesn't cut it.
The graphics are now poor in comparison to DX10 games. It's very linear and
invisible walls remove any sense of really being there. The AI is appalling
and the constant enemy remarks are very repetitive.
I only brought it because I had 'GAME' credit to use up so it didn't cost
much:)

I would just like a straightforward shooter without having to go into
special power modes or whatever. I loved far cry but never bothered with
crysis because of this.

There's no denying that the game is a lot of fun. It's just not what
maybe most people were expecting (or perhaps hoping for).
The game has high production values and is a good old fashioned linear
FPS romp. The lack of save anywhere doesn't seem to spoil things as
the save points are frequent and well placed.
I like the sound and feel of the weapons and the gibbing effects are
pretty spectacular. I do agree with IGN about this game. It's an
engaging and fun but ultimately fairly forgettable FPS.
It won't be in my top 10 games of all time but it's certainly a fun
distraction all the same.

The game took me a few hours to download - have you conidered
broadband ? :-p |

It must have been someone else - I had no idea the game was coming,
before it was mentioned here that it was out.
I've ordered it online, so it should arrive mid-week (stupid slow-arse
Amazon free delivery).
The games getting trickier now - more baddies have magic abilities,
and the key is to get the drop on them, then snipe them from as far
away as possible. |

My favourite effect is when you catch someone in the throat with a
round, and they grasp their throat with blood spurting through their
fingers, before collapsing.
Also - I just upgraded Mire with a crystal that kills anyone within
range when you activate it. They turn to ash, and then crumble away.
Mire goes from a usefel effect to slow time, and get the jump on
baddies, to being a grenade type action that kills anyone close -
great for ambushes in small rooms

Return to Castle Wolfenstein - I realize this is an old game but I just found it my desk. I have gotten trhu the first misson and am now at the rocket base mission. My problem is I can't get by the second watch tower. Every time I shoot him, he falls thru the guard rail and sets off.. |
