The Witcher Enhanced Edition (aka V1.4) hotfix for EAX and graphics
blur issues.
http://files.filefront.com/The+Witcher+Enhanced+Edition+Hotfix+Patch/;...49217;/
more details about this file
Fixes
======================================================
1) EAX technology problems: this patch resolves problems related to
EAX technology, which did not operate properly in conjunction with the
game, generating critical errors when activated in the Game Options
panel.
2) The patch also eliminates the blur (deriving from 'glow' effect
augmentation) remaining after cut scenes and dialogue sequences.

I DL'ed this patch last night. I've never seen this "blur" problem and I
don't use EAX so I haven't had any sound issues. The patch is 106MB so I
wonder what else might have been fixed, tweaked. Anyone install this and
played yet? Any problems with saved games? JLC |

It was only FREE because it's what should have been in the game in the first
place. You don't call what you posted "jumping through hoops"? Then WTF is
it? Those are "hoops" by my definition. |

The Witcher was a good game to begin with. The enhanced upgrade makes
it a really good (borderline great) game, as far as I am concerned. And
from what I understand, many of the enhances and upgrades occurred due
to player feedback and requests, which took time and gameplay experience
to amass, so it logically could not have been in the game in the first
place.
Look at it this way... If they had wanted to, they could have gone the
way of many games (and movies) by coming out with the "enhanced" or
"director's cut" edition, and charging you full price for it even if you
owned the original. Seems to me a few hoops are a pittance compared to
what it could have cost.

I played through both versions and there was nothing wrong with the
original version. In fact very little was changed. The graphics got a
small upgrade and the inventory system was made to work much better. The
added stuff was like icing on a cake and they sure didn't need to go to
the trouble of coding all that extra stuff, but they did. And they gave
it to use for free, which is a rare thing indeed these days. They could
have sold this as a upgrade version to previous owners, but they didn't.
As for the process to get the patch it involved making up a user
name and password sure wasn't that hard. It's not like they made you
fill out a huge form asking a bunch of questions and getting your home
address. No all they wanted was a e-mail address and for a simple
sigh-in. Big deal. I really enjoyed playing the EE version. It looked
better and it played faster and had more cut scenes that filled in some
of the back story. This is one of the best RPG games I've ever played
because it stuck to a basic game mechanic and really rewarded you when
you leveled up. The magic was simple yet worked fantastic once I got the
hang of it. Hell I got so good at magic that I hardly used my weapons,
even toward the end. JLC |

That's odd, considering that the original version sold over 600,000
copies and garnered rave reviews from **players**, not just the usual
"paid" reviewers. If you had been reading rather closely over the past
year, having removed your distorting spectacles, you would have
noticed that the DEVELOPERS were not very pleased with their efforts
and wished to correct most of the deficiencies THEY found in the game
- recording ~5000 additional lines of English dialog, for just one
example of the many detailed extensions, thus making NPC encounters
far less repetitive -- and then offer the upgrade as a FREE download
to existing purchasers. A very unusual exercise indeed in this
cynical money-worshipping world.

No worse in manual user-activity and download time than on-line
registering and downloading a complete graphically-intensive game via
Steam or any other game download service. The complete set of game
update files is less than 2 Gbytes.
