Hi all.

I'd love top be able to talk to my commander or my team members, but I
can't get the voice to work. Anyone point me to a fix?

I have; WinXP pro. A logitech usb webcam with microphone built in,
BF2 with latest 1.03 patch.

In control panel/sounds. I can test the mic and see the volume bar
moving, and it works when I talk to family over webcam.

It's the default mic.

The volume sliders are fully up and it's enabled in volume controls.

BUT IT STILL won't make any sounds in BF2. I get a red 'broken
speaker' icon when pressing V or B ingame.

In BF2 options I've tried setting it up but here I get no response.
Yes, it is enabled in BF2! Smile

HELP! Thanks chief!

knobpolisher, a BF2 player of 3 days!

Gday knob
Are you using a sound card or the onboard sound? My mike wouldn't
work ingame when using the mb sound.
I think I fought with/against you today on an Internode server. We kicked
arse if I remember rightly...

I have the exact same problem. I bet you have a motherboard that has Realtek onboard
sound. I've tried everything to fix it, including the lame suggestions on EA's tech
support forum to no avail.

I even disabled onboard sound in the bios and installed a Creative EAX card, still
nothing. AND ITS STILL NOT FIXED AFTER THE RELEASE OF 1.03!!! GRRRR

If your using a creative card, check the creative mixer settings while at
the game audio options menu, it tends to change the recording input
settings, (Like muting the mic, all on it's own !).

Settings are correct. It's a known issue with the Realtek chipset.

That explains why I can't use the mic with both BF2 and TeamSpeak.
Presumably this is a driver issue. No reason why it should be a limitation
of the hardware. Has Realtek acknowledged it and indicated that any work is
in progress to correct it?

I don't know what the deal is with Realtek, I just know what I read in the EA support
forum thread.

Guys, it's USB, you could use any soundcard and it doesn't make any
difference, USB puts load on the cpu, not a soundcard.

I'm guessing it's purely an issue with bf2 and usb mics', I have the same
problem. Skype and Dod:S are fine, so I'm changing nothing until another bf2
patch...

Depends. No reason it should, if it's using proper DMA to move the sound
data to the port. To the CPU, it should look like a sound card, just one
that has some latency (1 millisecond) to ship each block of data to the
"card" on the end of the USB cable.

I also have a similar problem with a USB headset. The mic works fine in
everything (including teamspeak) except bf2. In bf2 it works, but only if I
*YELL* into it, even with every setting I can find set to max.

My Realtek mobo chipset won't let me share the mic between BF2 and TS. I
blame the driver. There's no reason the hardware shouldn't be sharable.
After all, you just copy the data coming from the hardware to all processes
that "subscribe" to it.

My issue had nothing to do with USB, I'm using the MIC jack on the Creative card.

Thanks for the followups on this thread. I'll remove the usb webcam
sometime and try my Zalman mic. I can but hope.
