Hi,
I have only recently come to the realization that I find greater joy in
classic gaming then I do in one modern re-hash after another. With that
I went back to the classics, I grew up with and one of my great loves
were vector games. Somehow the magic of this amazing Console slipped
right passed me. But, by way of Emulation I have discovered and LOVE
what I have seen so far. The new Homebrew stuff is AMAZING and in MANY
cases indistinguishable from the actual realeases of the 80's. You guys
are amazing.
I am thrilled to be here and I am looking forward to learnign a lot.

Have you had a chance to try the real thing? The Vectrex is one
system that really must be experienced in person. It's great that the
emulators exist and they are an invaluable programming tool and they
help get the word about the Vectrex out there but they really are only
an approximation of the real thing.
There's also something about the way the Vec is esthetically and
ergonomically designed that adds to the experience too. The controller
is unique and still AFAIK the only self centering analog joystick for a
home console in the 80's. Computers had them (like Kraft and CH/Hayes
joysticks for the Apple II and CoCo). The the way the controller locks
into the front of the console for storage is a great design ethic that
we no longer see in today's consoles.
Thankfully real Vectrexes aren't too difficult to track down these
days. I wonder though how many of these nearly 25 year old units will
be failing in a few years? |

You can take a Vectrex into a tv repair shop, most of what gets the
Vectrex running is off the shelf and comprable (sp?) to a tv. You
might have to check with a few repair shops before someone will take
a chance with it though, but you never know :D
Oh, and welcome to the new person as well |

get the games for $20 shipped. Welcome.

Try to get hold of a console, it's SO much better than emulation.
BTW it's a great time to be a Vectrex owner.

Especially since it's summer, as Vectrex prices on e-bay (but if you
don't trust them, I understand) usually drop, due to it being the
Season of Yard Sales and All (or at least that's why *I* think prices
usually go down for them). And quite a few of the homebrews that are
available work better on the "real thing" rather than on
emulation. (We've also got a thread in the Modern Games section
where we discuss good homebrews that we recommend.) |

I think the drop in prices on ebay is that people all over the northern
Hemisphere are in summertime. WIth vacations and local beaches and
backyard BBQ's and extended amounts of daylight, people spend much more
time outdoors and having fun and not on the internet. It's ungodly hot
in Philadelphia right now (with high humidity to boot), so I myself
have been staying in doors:)
