Heard on the news that Clark died this morning of a heart attack. Ninety
years old so not a bad innings but his writings will be sadly missed by
those who enjoy good, plausible science fiction. I count myself as one of
them.

Many of his predictions have come to fruition, the most obvious being
communications satellites. Now I wait for the installation of the space
elevator.

cheers

Strange to feel for the loss of someone I have never met and only know
through his writings. Very sad to think there will be no more writings from
him. I was a great fan and have most of his books. Felt the same when
Asimov popped out for his extended lunch break.

On 3/18/2008 9:25 PM, Canuck went clickity clack on the keyboard and
produced this interesting bit of text:

I wasn't so enamored of Clarke. Don't get me wrong, he came up with
some amazing things and he's indirectly responsible for us being able to
converse here. (He came up with the idea for communications satellites
in geosynchronous orbit.) However, I'll lift a glass to him. I think
he was neat enough. Smile

I also will miss his writings. It was seeing 2001 when released that
turned me to science fiction, as I had to go to the library and lend the
book to understand what it was about. Since then I have pretty much read
all of his books and still enjoy re-reading them.

One of my favourite Clark books is "Childhood's End". A great read I think.
