Seven months after a snippet was shown at E3, Midway and Epic's shooter
is confirmed for Sony's next-gen console.

As part of its pre-E3 PlayStation 3 conference in May, Sony brought
Epic Games cofounder Tim Sweeney on stage. Besides saying that Epic had
already received a PS3 software-development kit--which he said was
"easy to program"--Sweeney also performed a tech demo of a shooter
running on PS3 hardware.

The game on display appeared to be Unreal Tournament 2007, the
flashy-looking, Unreal Engine 3-based successor to the popular PC
shooter Unreal Tournament 2004. However, neither Sony nor Epic would
confirm when--or even if--UT 2007 would arrive on the PS3.

Seven months later, the two companies have broken their silence. The
January 2006 issue of PlayStation Magazine proudly proclaims that, yes,
UT 2007 is coming to the PlayStation 3. Inside, the magazine also
reveals that the game will be a launch title for the PlayStation 3,
which is tentatively slated for a spring 2006 launch.

UT 2007 for PS3 is the second Epic shooter announced for
next-generation consoles. However, the first, Gears of War for the Xbox
360, is slated for a general "2006" release date, meaning it could
conceivably come out after the PS3 UT 2007.

In my opinion the "battle-lines" are now clearly drawn.

I read a John Carmack interview recently in which he stated that all
initial development of the next Quake was being done on an Xbox 360
dev. system. He sang the praises of Microsoft and seemed completely
unconcerned about MicroShaft screwing up OpenGL. Oh, yeah, Quake is
going to be all DirectX.

It was obvious to me he has gone over to the evil empire. (Herb Sutter
anyone?) Money walks baby....

So Sony has obviously countered with Sweeny.

Once again the people - PC gamers - who "made" these guys will be
abandoned at the first opportunity to enrich themselves. Yes I know
about Carmack donating old code to the "community." So what, it's
OLD. It's not a threat to their revenue stream at all.

Scraps from the King's Table mean little really.

Where's Bilgecunt? He should've posted in this thread by now, extolling
the numerous virtues of the PC version while simultaneously shitting on
the console version.

Oh, wait...this is UT2K7 for PS3, not X360. I've answered my own
question it seems.

I agree with Faequhar, I just hope and PC version isn't affected by PS3
restrictions.

Tim Sweeney has gone 360 (no pun intended) on the PS3. I remember him saying
that it'll be a bitch to program for. It's no real big surprise though, as
Epic are bum chums with nVidia who provide the graphics for the PS3.

The screenshots look stunning, but quite frankly the game looks like it's
going in totally the wrong direction. I'll wait and see..
