Well, I'm halfway through. I just got the useless spinner item. Seems
like once you get the master sword that's the high point of the game.
After that, you just start getting useless and uninspiring items. And
the temptation to use the player's guide starts to become unbearable.

Still one of the best games I've ever played though.

That sounds pretty contradicting, if its one of the best games you have
ever played then the second half of the game should still be pretty
damn fun. I think you are probably just depressed that you have passed
the halfway point of a great game and its only a matter of time before
its over.

It does have some low points, but I found that if I went off the main
thread of the game, and did a side-quest, that when I went back to the
main thread it was better.

*spoiler to follow*

I'm in the Sky Temple, and am totally stuck, but other than now, I've
only *had* to side quest twice, once out of boredom, and once out of
stuckness. I only got bored in Temple of Time, because it sucks so much.

the spinner is pretty rubbish BUT the other temple prizes from here on
out are pretty damn cool. trust me there's still plenty of goodness to
come.

I'd agree with that, I'd say the only thing I dislike about this Zelda
(and this isn't much) is that in previous games the sidequests were much
more integrated into the main game. You had to level up to progress etc.
Everything around the main game is almost incidental here which is
surprising because it has one of the richest game worlds out there.
Fishing is a lot of fun in it's self.

I just love the fishing. That was my favorite part of Ocarina of Time
(along with hunting for big poes on horseback). The fishing on this
game is just as good. By any chance have you been able to get the
sinking lure? I have followed the instructions in the player's guide
and cannot get it. I get cans, wheels, twigs, bags of rupies, etc.
But no sinking lure.

Maybe I just don't have the attention span to keep going further. I
grew up in the Pac-Man era. I'm not used to playing games that go on
and on and on... As an example, I never did get very far in majora's
mask. I played it hard for about a week and then I was done. I think I
only got up to like 7 heart containers.

And these temples are just killing me. It's one thing to plow through
one of them and get a great item like the boomerang or the clawshot,
but it's another thing when you spend several days in a temple and get
a useless pos like the spinner. I think I'm cooked Sad Maybe if I take
a break for a few weeks, I can get back to it, but most likely I never
will, as with zelda mm.
