I did a search for this and found the last post was made in 2006. Is
there any way to transfer programs from my old Tivo 2 to my newTivo
Series 3 without using TiVo Desktop + which would involve Tivo 2 >
PC> TiVo 3?

Yeah, the Series3 got Multi-Room Viewing a long time ago. You can
move shows from an S2 to an S3 just like S2 to S2.

Here's an interesting tip, you can move an HD recording from a PC to a
hacked S2 and then over to an HD. I had a bunch of programs from my
DirecTivo I moved this way. Worked well, if a bit tedious to do.

Thanks,

You're at the mercy of the USB port speed and driver on the Tivos. You'd
want to use a 100baseT switch. This is generally a good idea anyway as it
keeps the Tivo-to-Tivo traffic off the rest of your home network. While the
Tivo are transferring programs it's like a freight train of packets. This
tends to bog down other traffic if it's all going through a single
residential grade router. Pick up a small 100mb switch. I believe the
transfer time, under ideal conditions over wired ethernet ends up being
about 2x realtime (1 hour show in 30 minutes). This being 'best' quality
recordings. But fortunately you can stack up a bunch of them (manually) and
MRV will handle the transfers. Pick 'em and leave it over night.
