I have 2 series 2's - a Humax DRT800 with lifetime and a Toshiba RX20 that I
pay the $6.95 / mo for

However, I am fed up with Comcast and am considering Direct TV or ATT
satellite.

Will my Tivo's be usable in either scenario?

I will want whatever I get set up in 3 or 4 locations in the house. Will I
need more than one satellite dish on the outside of the house?

Thanks

Possibly (not much of a yes no answer eh?), but it depends on what units you
get from DTV... I had an older S2, and used it both with dish and DTV via
the IR blaster......
Look for the basic no frills units, they have some dual tuners (one uses IR,
but the second uses UHF to control the channels), and those won't
necessarily work, they also have some newer ones that are hidef only and
don't have a composite/component output (just an HDMI) won't make it

To answer your multi dish thing, again it depends.... Usually just one dish,
however, some of the newer setups have two dishes for multiple sats (or a
rectangle dish with 5 LNB's)

Yes, but if you get a DirecTV TiVo, you will get to record two shows
at a time on each box, and there is only one monthly charge per box,
not one for that receiver, and another for the TiVo.

No, but you will need a multi-switch. You may be able use some or most
of the existing coax cable if it is RG-6. The multiswitch goes where
the splitter is now.

A single oval dish with a built-in four-port multiswitch can send signals
to four individual receivers, or a lesser number of DVRs with dual tuners.

The DirecTV upgrade recently installed at my house came with an eight-port
multiswitch. I have all 8 in use. This includes two instances of a TiVo
box controlling an external DirecTV D10 receivers via serial port.

If you want to go that way, ask for a DirecTV set up that includes a DirecTV
DVR that is bundled with two free DirecTV receivers.

I dumped Comcast too for DirecTv.
Tivo dual tuner becomes single tuner.
Other than that it works great.
I found a DirecTvTivo for sale local, and it works great too, just not the
local network stuff.

Shhh, Wes believes that we would all be better off rolling TV selection
back to the 1950s. We should all watch only network TV and be thankful
we have it.
