I replaced mine with a 7.2 (?) cordless phone battery from Radio Shack
around 1994. It's still running great. |

Is that a lithium battery and did you install a blocking diode? |

I used a 3 cell cordless phone nicad battery pack I got from Radio
Shack. It's 3.75 volts which is perfect for these games. I put some
velcro on it and stuck it to the cab next to the board but away enough
that if it leaked it wouldn't hit anything. I originally did this to
mine back in 1988 and finally had to change it just last year.

Cliffy,
Did you put a "blocking diode" in place as well? I read that Tron will
charge that battery and replacing it should include a diode to block
the charge.
Thanks, James |

.....Ok, so I'm a little sleepy
I am going to bet you did NOT put the diode in place. I also think I
know why your using the cell phone battery....
because it IS rechargable?
I got my little brain wrapped around this now.
Thanks! |

Precisely Cordless phone batteries are NiCads so they need to
recharge. Alkalines, lithiums you do NOT want to charge so in those
cases you would solder in a 1n4004 diode (banded end towards the
positive terminal on the board) to prevent charging.

Seems the cellphone nicad is the way to then, long lasting, inexpensive, and
easier to install.
Awesome information, thanks again.
